Rampage controversy unfolds during the 3rd ODI match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan: The 3rd ODI match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan at R. Premadasa, Colombo came to a standstill when rocks and projectiles were thrown on to the field while the visiting Pakistani side was fielding. As soon as the incident happened the match got interrupted and the security officials rushed on to the ground.
It is reported that some fans from the crowd had thrown rocks on a Pakistani player from the terraced section of the south-eastern stand.It was witnessed that there was a big fight between certain section of the supporters in the stands. First the players got into a huddle on the ground and then eventually they had to leave the field due to this blotting happening while the game was underway. The match referee Javagal Srinath supervised the proceedings then and the riot police escorted the trouble creating section out of the ground. But, even after that they continued their shambles trend of indecent behavior as projectiles were hurled from the back of the open south-eastern stand.
The SLC secretary Prakash Schaffter asserted that- “There was an issue between two factions in the stands.The police sorted that out. There was a stone that found its way to the ground – outside of the boundary line though. Nevertheless it was on the ground. They temporarily stopped play and then the police brought the situation under control. When we confirmed that to the match referee, the match commenced. Play was stopped partly because of an abundance of caution, because player security is paramount.”
It is notable that the Sri Lankan team was batting at 158/7 after 33.3 at that juncture of time. They were chasing a massive total of 317.Finally, after the commendable rescue work of security officials, the match got restarted and fortunately there was no loss of overs in the game even after a delay of 30 minutes between 9.35 pm to 10.05 pm.
