Sri Lankan spin maestro, Rangana Herath, after the end of second day’s play, claimed that Sri Lanka should have been in a better position. He further added that batting last on the wicket won’t be easy, so ideally, Lankans should look at a lead of over 50. Looking at nature of the pitch, Herath expects that the wicket would assist the spinners in the next three days.

Herath recently picked up his 30th 5-wicket haul, overtaking Glenn McGrath tally of five wicket hauls in Tests. He is only behind Anil Kumble, Richard Hadlee, Shane Warne and Muthiah Muralitharan in the list of most number of five wicket hauls. In just 81 matches, Herath has picked up many as 381 wickets.Even after his five wicket haul in the ongoing Test match at Khettarama, Zimbabwe managed to post a total of 356 and gained a lead of 10 runs, by dismissing the Lankans for 346.

Wicket is getting drier, says Herath

“If we can get to 350 or 400 – even get a first-innings lead of about 50, that would be good. But if we can’t manage that, we have to get them out cheaply in the second innings. Batting fourth on this track won’t be easy. We’ve got two spinners in the XI, so I think we’ll be able to get them out for an average score or below. But right now, I think we should have been in a better position than this.” commented Rangana Herath post the day’s play according to Espncricinfo.

“If you take yesterday and today, the pitch is drier now than it was, I think that’s the nature of the surface – that will be there tomorrow and the day after. The next three days will be good for the spinners, I think. We got a good start, but after that Cremer bowled really well. The balls to get Kusal and Chandimal were very good balls. When you get those kinds of deliveries, the chances of getting out are high.” concluded Herath.
