Rangpur Riders set to retain Chris Gayle for BPL 2018

The name of Chris Gayle needs no introduction in the world cricket. He is arguably the most attacking and the most feared T20 batsman in the world cricket. His recent exploits in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) only reinstated his reign at the top of T20 cricket yet again. Such was his impact in the tournament that the big Jamaican is now the most sought after player in the BPL yet again.

He cracked masterly tons in the Eliminator and in the Finals of the tournament this year. His herculean ton in the finals against the Dhaka Dynamites helped the Rangpur Riders register their maiden BPL title win. Now, the Riders know that they have a very valuable asset in their team. As per the recent reports in bdcrictime, the Rangpur Riders are all set to retain Chris Gayle for the 2018 edition of the BPL. They are keen on extending Gayle’s contract following his stellar run in the season.

Number crunching

Talking about the stats and the achievements, Gayle managed to walk away with almost all prestigious honors after the season finale this year. He was named as the Player of the Match and the Player of the Series after the finals. During the course of the tournament, he amassed 485 runs in the 11 matches that he featured in.

He was the highest run scorer in the season. Chris Gayle cracked 47 sixes and 29 boundaries during the course of BPL 2017. With a couple of tons this season, Gayle now has 5 BPL tons to his name. This was Gayle’s fifth appearance in the BPL.

Interestingly, this was the season when he got to play the most number of matches. After Chris Gayle, it would be interesting to see if the Rangpur Riders consider retaining Brendon McCullum as well. In that case, the availability of McCullum would be in picture as well.
