Rangpur Riders may have stolen a last-ball finish from the grasp of the Dhaka Dynamites in Tuesday’s game, but their over rate failed to match the set parameters. The captain, Mashrafe Mortaza was fined 40 percent of his match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate in the match. The rest of his teammates were charged 20 percent of their remuneration.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) issued a press release on November 22 (Wednesday) stating the action that had been taken after the match. The contest, in itself, was a nail-biting affair as it went down to the very last ball. Rangpur came out on top as they won the match by 3 runs. This victory has put them at the fifth position on the points table, with 6 points to their name.
Mashrafe Mortaza pleads guilty to offence
As stipulated by the Article 2.5.1 of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 percent of their match fees for every over their side fail to bowl within the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount, reported Cricbuzz. In view of the same rule, the Riders fell short by two overs when time allowances were taken into account.
The release from BCB further stated that Mortaza had pleaded guilty to the offence and as a result, no further probe of hearing regarding the matter was necessary. In spite of having a meagre score of 142 runs on the board, it was Lasith Malinga and Thisara Perera who won the match for their team by means of their splendid bowling.
Malinga pulled the match back out of nowhere for his side with some tight death bowling. With 10 runs required off the last over, Perera dismissed the swashbuckling Kieron Pollard and guided his side to victory.
