Round three of the Ranji Trophy commenced at various neutral venues as many sides took the cue and make headway on the very first day of proceedings. Karnataka, one of the champions in recent times went ahead and bundled out Delhi for a paltry 90 runs. The occasion was made even more impressive as they were without skipper Vinay Kumar and Karun Nair taking the reins for this particular encounter.

While the fact that they were playing at the Eden gardens itself made the encounter one to watch out for, the Karnataka bowlers were well in their element. Krishnappa Gowtham impressed quite a lot with some impressive bowling while Sreenath Aravind picked 4 wickets, therefore blasting Delhi out. Ravikumar Samarth and Mayank Agarwal then went on to slam twin half-centuries as they looked to add more to the three points they have in the bag at the moment.

Elsewhere in Bilaspur, Sayan Mondal smashed a wonderful 135 as Bengal took the upper hand against a strong Punjab side on paper. They smashed runs in excess of 300 as the Yuvraj Singh-led Punjab unit are now let chasing the game. Goa also made some impressive headway in their ascend to the top of the Group Rankings with Swapnil Asnodkar (101) and Sagun Kamat (177) smashed twin centuries, something that sees Goa pile on the runs against a weak services team.

Tripura and Saurashtra were the others to make headway in the first innings while batting while Gujarat and Haryana were the teams that were bundled out for paltry scores of 187 and 178 respectively. Jharkhand was also bowled out for 209 on the first day’s play itself. Here are the brief scores of what transpired in today’s play.
