Ranji Trophy 2016/17, Round 3, Day 2 Review
The day 2 of the round three in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2016/17 saw a couple of high scoring team performances today. Saurashtra, who ended at 285/3 on day one, went on amass a staggering 657/8 before declaring in the last session to give Maharashtra a chance to bat. The decision to let the opposition bat late in the final session obviously was taken with a hope of taking advantage of the fading light.
However, Maharashtra safely played out the remaining six overs to end on a safe note. Similarly, Goa also dominated its opposition Services and compiled 606/6d. Middle order batsman Sagun Kamat with his unbeaten 304 was the top performer of the day. His knock also made him the first Goa batsman to hit a triple ton in Ranji Trophy. Services, in reply, lost opener Anshul Gupta cheaply and ended at 39/1 in 13 overs.
Karnataka further gained a firm hold over the proceedings today and smashed 414 after bowling out Delhi for just 90 in the first innings yesterday. There wasn’t any standout performer and batting lineup put up a combined batting effort to gain control of the match. The Gujarat versus Railways game witnessed a low scoring performance from both the teams in the first innings.
Batting, in reply to Gujarat for just 187 runs, the Railways failed to take an advantage of the situation and were bundled out for just 1224 and made to follow on. Gujarat began on a steady note in the 3rd innings an ended on 295/3 and now have an overall lead of 358 runs and look in firm control of the game.
