The Ranji Trophy witnessed a new champion for the second consecutive season as Vidarbha ended their 61-year drought of a title by thumping down some of the favourites to win the trophy. The season witnessed some new names sparkling in the tournament especially fast bowlers like Rajneesh Gurbani who was the man of the match in all the three knockout games of Vidarbha and Mayank Agarwal, who was back in the news by amassing 1000 runs in the November month itself.

All the stats and numbers that were created during the Ranji Trophy 2017-18 season:

5 – Jammu and Kashmir’s Mohammed Mudhasir’s five ducks are the most for any player in the tournament. Kulwant Khejroliya, Amandeep Khare and Navdeep Saini all bagged four ducks each.


5 – Mayank Agarwal and Faiz Fazal scored five hundreds each in this season the most by anyone. Mayank’s seven fifty-plus scores are also the most by any player.


5 – Rajneesh Gurbani’s five 5-wicket hauls are the most for any player in this Ranji season while Jalaj Saxena is the only player with multiple 10-wicket match hauls in this tournament.


8/40 – Chintan Gaja’s 8/40 for Gujarat against Team Rajasthan are the best bowling figures in an innings this season. Jalaj Saxena’s 8/85 also against Team Rajasthan is the only other 8-wicket haul in this tournament.


12/162 – Rajneesh Gurbani’s match figures of 12/162 in the semi-final against Karnataka are the best for any player in this season. Chirag Khurana’s 12/184 against Uttar Pradesh is the other instance of 12 wickets in a match for a player.


23 – Pankaj Jaiswal’s 23 sixes are the most by any player in this season. Sanju Samson (21) is the only other player to hit more than 20 sixes in the tournament. Mayank Agarwal’s 130 fours are the most by any player with Faiz Fazal (121) and Gautam Gambhir (104) standing as the only other player with 100+ fours.


24 – KS Bharat and CM Gautam affected 24 dismissals in this Ranji season which are the most by any wicketkeeper. Gautam’s 24 catches are the most for any keeper while Parthiv Patel’s seven stumpings are the highest. As a fielder, Faiz Fazal (16) pouched the most number of catches in this tournament.


44 – Kerala’s Jalaj Saxena bagged 44 wickets in the tournament which are the most by any player. Rajneesh Gurbani took 39 wickets in the season including 27 in the knockouts itself.


55 – Assam’s total of 55 against Railways is the lowest team total in this Ranji season. Uttar Pradesh’s 72/10 is the 2nd lowest which was also against Railways.

338 – Prashant Chopra’s 338 against Punjab is the highest individual score in 2017/18 Ranji season. Mayank Agarwal’s 304* against Maharashtra and Hanuma Vihari’s 302* against Odisha are the other triple hundreds in this season.


354 – The 354-run partnership between Dega Nischal and Manish Pandey for the 4th wicket against Maharashtra is the highest stand for any wicket in this tournament. Hanuma Vihari and Ricky Bhui’s 308-run 3rd wicket stand against Baroda is the only other 300+ partnership in this season.


729/8 – Himachal Pradesh’s total of 729/8 against Punjab is the highest team total of this Ranji season and only 700+ total.


1160 – Mayank Agarwal was the only player with 1000+ runs in this season. He scored 1160 runs in the tournament including 1033 in the November month itself.
