Not every day India’s premier domestic league provides nine outright results out of 12 games. The round 3 of the Ranji Trophy turned out to be a thrilling affair. There were only three matches without any result and Odisha won’t mind that. Andhra had to be content with just three points after putting Odisha in a spot of bother. But at the end, Odisha just managed to stand their ground and denied a win to Hanuma Vihari’s side. Biplab Samantray’s unbeaten 62 came at the hour of crisis as Odisha lived to fight another day.

Kerala registered their second outright win as Jalax Saxena’s all-round show turned out to be too good for Rajasthan. A hundred, a fifty and 10 wickets in the game hardly had a match as Rajasthan were bowled out for 211 in the second innings, handing a 131 win to the hosts. Jharkhand gunned for glory in style after opener Ishan Kisan and Nazim Siddiqui chased down 81 in just 10.4 overs. Kisan continued his good form and followed up his 83 with an unbeaten 46 while his teammate and ‘FIFA rival’ Ishank Jaggi took home the man of the match award for his 135 in the first innings.

Suresh Raina’s poor form continues

Chasing 324 to win, UP’s chase was led by Rinku Singh, who played an impressive unbeaten knock of 136-ball 122 but his innings went in vain as UP lost the contest by 31 runs and in the process gave away six vital points to Maharashtra. UP skipper Suresh Raina once again failed to score with the bat and was dismissed by Chirag Khurana for just five runs in the second innings. Khurana was adjudged the man of the match for his 6/53 and 6/131 in respective innings.

Dead contest

The Mumbai v Tamil Nadu contest didn’t live up to the hype as both the teams shared the spoils after competing for four days. Tamil Nadu replied to Mumbai’s 374 with a solid 450, all credit to Baba Aparajith’s 152 and an entertaining hundred by Yo Mahesh. But Mumbai didn’t panic and play out 95 overs, scoring 371/5, with hundreds from consistent Shreyas Iyer and Akhil Herwadkar.

Gopal’s nine leaves Hyderabad in the dumps

Hyderabad’s resistance broke bad as Karnataka registered a 59-run win after the chasing team were bowled out for 320.Anchored by Karun Nair’s 134, Karnataka came hard at the opposition after being bowled out for 183 in the first innings, and managed to score 320 in the next attempt. Shreyas Gopal bagged 5/17 in the first innings and took figures of 4/91 in the second innings to seize the day for the hosts.
