Ranji Trophy 2017/18: Yuvraj Singh will be missing Punjab's next game
With just one point in two games played, Punjab is placed 7th in group D.
Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, who is currently battling it out for a place in the Indian side, will be skipping Punjab’s next match in the Ranji Trophy. The reason behind his absence is not clear, but rumors suggest Yuvraj is disappointed with a fact that he failed to clear the Yo-Yo Test twice in a short span of time.
Few media sources also quoted that Yuvraj and Harbhajan have given up hopes of making a comeback into the Indian side. After getting dropped from the national side after the tour of West Indies, Yuvraj has remained out of consideration. His apparent failure to clear the much-hyped about Yo-Yo Test is a pinch on the pimple and chances of getting back into contention are slimmer than ever before.
Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj missed the first round of the Ranji Trophy as they went to the National Cricket Academy for the Yo-Yo Test. Yuvraj and Bhajji option to stay out of the next game against Goa kind of gives an indication that mental stress has been huge on the 35-year-old.
Jiwanjyot Singh to lead Punjab against Goa
With Yuvraj not available, youngster Jiwanjyot Singh will be taking the leadership responsibilities in the third round fixture against Goa. Punjab suffered a humiliating defeat in the hands of Vidarbha in the second round and though seniors like Yuvraj and Harbhajan were present, Vidarbha ran through them and earned a bonus point victory.
Though they have some decent talents like Manan Vohra, Abhishek Gupta, Manpreet Gony and Barinder Sran, they have failed to make the most of the quality they have. Punjab is clearly short of confidence and they desparately need a win against Goa to get their campaign up and running. Goa will pose quite a challenge, but Punjab being a better side on paper, will have the advantage.
With just one point in two games played, the North Indian side are placed 7th in group D. The likes of Goa, Chattisgarh and Himachal Pradesh have eclipsed them on the table and they’d be eager to turn the table around.
