Mumbai didn’t have the best of campaigns in the erstwhile edition of the Ranji Trophy and being one of the most successful teams in India’s domestic circuit, they would be desperately hoping to make amends. The team is scheduled to play their opening match of the upcoming Ranji Trophy against Railways, starting November 1 at Karnail Singh Stadium in New Delhi.
In the meantime, teenage sensation Prithvi Shaw has become doubtful for the encounter and hasn’t been included in the 15-man squad, announced on Thursday. The youngster suffered an elbow injury, playing for India ‘A’ in the ongoing Deodhar Trophy. The batsman was also hit on the same spot during the second Test of India’s two-match series against the Windies.
Update of Shaw’s injury
However, it has also been learned that the injury isn’t grave and he requires some rest for his elbow to come back in shape. “He’s been advised a week’s rest by the doctor. There’s swelling on his elbow, but luckily, no fracture,” a source was quoted as saying in The Times of India (TOI).
The 18-year-old recently made his international debut against the Caribbean team and impressed one and all with a superlative century in his maiden appearance. He is most likely to be selected for the Australia tour as well.
Meanwhile, Ajit Agarkar, the former Indian cricketer, and Mumbai chief selector mentioned that Shaw has adequate time to make the cut for the encounter. “He is supposed to meet the doctor early next week. If he is cleared, he will be added as an additional member of the squad and will play,” Agarkar mentioned.
Here is the squad
Shreyas Iyer (C), Dhawal Kulkarni (VC), Siddhesh Lad, Jay Bista, Surya Kumar Yadav, Ashay Sardesai, Aditya Tare, Eknath Kerkar, Shivam Dube, Akash Parkar, Karsh Kothari, Shams Mulani, Akhil Herwadkar, Tushar Deshpande, Royston Dias
