After an enthralling round one of the Ranji Trophy 2018-19, all the teams are now gearing up for the second round of the tournament. The four-day second round matches will begin on 12 November 2018. However, Tamil Nadu side has been dealt with a big blow ahead of the crucial encounter against Hyderabad.
The side will be missing the services of some of their top players for the upcoming fixtures. Murali Vijay, Ravichandran Ashwin and Vijay Shankar will be giving the round two a miss. While both the Vijays are scheduled to fly to New Zealand for the India A assignment, Ashwin wants to begin his preparation for the tour of Australia.
The first game of the tournament for Tamil Nadu was a rain-affected one. Only 235.2 overs of play was possible over the four days against Madhya Pradesh. In the first innings, Madhya Pradesh were bowled out for 393 runs. Ashwin was the joint-highest wicket-taker in the innings with four scalps. Shankar accounted for one wicket.
However, both Murali and Shankar failed with the bat. While the former scored 19, the latter scored 17 before the game ended up in a draw. Skipper Baba Indrajith with an unbeaten century came to the rescue in the match.
Tamil Nadu names the replacements
The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) was quick to announce the replacements for these players. K Vignesh, C V Varun and Shahrukh Khan have been picked in their places, a TNCA release said. Vignesh will be returning to the squad after recovering from a hamstring injury while Varun and Shahrukh were highly impressive in the TNPL.
The match against Hyderabad will be played at the India Cement Company Ground in Tirunelveli. This is a crucial encounter for the home team as they will be looking to get a win under their belt at all costs.
