Ranji Trophy 2018-19: Wasim Jaffer enters the record books after double ton against Uttarakhand

Wasim Jaffer may not have represented India in a whole lot of matches, but he remains to be of the greatest cricketers in the Indian domestic circuit. He is currently the leading run-scorer in Ranji Trophy and his hunger for runs doesn’t seem to die down by any stretch of the imagination. The Bombay-born cricketer is currently plying his trade in the ongoing edition of the Ranji.
The 40-year-old is presently representing Vidarbha in the quarterfinal match against Uttarakhand at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium in Nagpur. In the meantime, the experienced campaigner has managed to rack up yet another record. In Vidarbha’s first innings, he scored 206 runs from 296 balls with 26 boundaries and guided his team to a commanding position.

On Thursday, he became the first Indian and the first Asian to rack two double centuries after turning 40. Previously, he racked up a score of 286 in the match against Rest of India in the Irani Cup. Meanwhile, he also breached the 200-run mark for the ninth time in first-class cricket. Jaffer thus far scored 969 runs this season at an average of 80.75 with four tons and two fifties.
He was one of the key players in Vidarbha’s victorious campaign last season when the team won the championship for the maiden time, beating Delhi in the final. Prior to this match against Uttarakhand, he had scored 18,873 runs in 250 first-class matches at an average of 51. Moreover, he has an awe-inspiring 56 centuries and 88 half-centuries in his illustrious career.
Jaffer also had the privilege of playing for the Indian team. After making his debut against South Africa in a Test match in Mumbai, he went on to ply his trade in 31 Tests in which he scored 1944 runs at an average of 34.10 with five centuries and 11 half-centuries. Furthermore, he played a couple of ODIs against the Proteas. Wasim last donned the national jersey back in 2008.
