After Day 1 of the Ranji Trophy 2019-20 Quarter-finals culminated with many batting stalwarts putting up a dominant show with their willow, the trend continued and runs galored on the second day too.
Anustup Majumdar’s ton and Shahbaz Ahmed‘s 82-run knock propelled Bengal to a competitive total of 332 runs against Odisha. However, Odisha, after suffering an early blow in the form of Anurag Sarangi, retaliated on the back of Shantanu Mishra (62) and Debasish Samantray (68) to amass 151/4 at the stumps of Day 2.
Nilkantha Das, who scalped two wickets while conceding 20 runs, emerged to be the best performer for Bengal. Das was also assisted by Ishan Porel and Shahbaz Ahmed, who scalped one wicket each to ensure that the wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals.
The encounter between Karnataka and Jammu & Kashmir resulted in a disappointment for all fans who were eagerly waiting for the play to resume. After Karnataka left the play with the scoreboard reflecting 14/2 at the stumps on Day 1, no play was possible on Day 2 due to wet outfield, leaving the fans in disdain.
In the encounter between Gujarat and Goa, the former continued their run-churning spree on Day 2 too as Parthiv Patel and his troops registered a massive total of 602/8 in their first innings. After the departure of skipper Parthiv Patel (124), Roosh Kalaria followed the trail and bolstered Gujarat’s run-flow by smashing an unbeaten 118-run knock. Kalaria weaved his knock around 14 fours and a six and was joined by Chintan Gaja, who also scored a 56-run knock.
Gujarat’s bowling force wasn’t far behind as Roosh Kalaria drew early blood by scalping the wicket of Goa’s Sumiran Amonkar on the second ball itself. Vaibhav Govekar was also dismissed by Chitan Gaja in the second over, leaving Goa reeling at a total of 46/2 at the culmination of Day 2.
Chirag Jani scored a brilliant ton to bolster Saurashtra’s total
Saurashtra also continued their run-scoring spree as they put up 419 runs on the scoreboard in their first innings. The Chirag Jani-Prerak Mankad steadied Saurashtra’s ship by excellent knocks. Jani scored a resilient 121-run knock while Mankad assisted him with 80 runs.
KV Sasikanth and Yarra Prithviraj emerged as the top performers for Andhra after they scalped three wickets each. In reply, Andhra suffered two early blows in their first innings after Saurashtra skipper Unadkat sent Prasanth Kumar and Sai Krishna back to the pavilion. At the end of Day 2, Andhra’s total reflected 40/2, trailing by 379 runs against Saurashtra’s massive total.
