Ranji Trophy 2021-22: Yash Dhull joins elite list of cricketers with twin centuries on debut
Yash Dhull followed up his 113 run knock in the first innings with an unbeaten 113 in the second innings on his Ranji Trophy debut.
Yash Dhull has had a wonderful time of late and he has joined the unique list of cricketers to have scored century in each innings of Ranji Trophy debut. He achieved the feat in the ongoing season against Tamil Nadu. The 19-year-old recently led India to a record fifth title in the U-19 World Cup in West Indies and he scored an excellent 113 run knock on his debut Ranji Trophy innings for the Delhi side.
Dhull continued his assault from the first innings with a century in the second innings as well and has become only the third player in the history of Ranji Trophy to hit back-to-back centuries on debut. In the unbeaten 113 on the second innings, Dhull hit 14 fours and one six, and his opening partner Dhruv Shorey reached his century as the game went on to end in a draw on the last day.
Yash Dhull becomes the only third cricketer to achieve the feat
The official page of Delhi Capitals posted an image of Dhull getting his consecutive centuries on Ranji debut. The right-hander has already shown a lot of promise for the future with an important century in the semi-finals of the U-19 World Cup against Australia and is a gun fielder inside the 30-yard circle. He was picked up by the Delhi franchise in the IPL 2022 mega auction and will be part of the IPL as well.
Nari Contractor was the first cricketer to achieve the feat of a century in each innings on debut in 1952/53 for Gujarat while Virag Awate managed the same feat a decade back in the 2012/2013 season for Maharashtra.
Tamil Nadu’s Shahrukh Khan had earlier set the stage on fire with a 194 run knock in the first innings and missed out on a well deserved double century by just six runs. His swashbuckling innings included 20 fours and ten sixes and had a strike rate of 131.08 and he is expected to make his international debut soon with the kind of form he has been in.
