2. David Warner (DD)
Instantaneously, David Warner in his debut international T20I game had shown his commendable batting prowess that also then had indulged the cricketer to join the IPL. Immediately, by being up for grabs in the 2009 IPL auction, the DD franchise had signed the southpaw for a mere INR 14-15 Lakh. However, his stint with the Delhi team turned to be a lot more prolonged as Warner until the IPL 2014 had got intact for five consecutive IPL seasons. Further, in the 2013 IPL season, Warner had also impressively scored more than 400 runs at an average of above 31.
But unfortunately in the mega auction of 2014, the DD team had left David Warner that eventually then started his soaring run with the SRH franchise. Promptly, by bagging him at a whopping price of INR 8.8 Crore, Warner apparently turned out to be worth for every single penny, as a mountain of 528 runs had come from his blade in that season. In fact, by further forging himself for a future captaincy, Warner finally had also brought in the IPL glory in 2016.
Overall, while the Delhi franchise had horrifically struggled for a prolonged 4-5 years since IPL 2013, similarly the SRH franchise by allowing Warner to helm had successfully transformed themselves as a top IPL team. Therefore, his release from the DD team has definitely been one of the worst blunders performed by any IPL franchise.
