Hence, a lot of expectations will be on Team India’s shoulders and they would not want to disappoint their fans. India have tasted glory in the T20 World Cup once, having won the inaugural edition of the competition in 2007.
The Men in Blue also advanced to the finals in 2014, while the 2016 tournament saw them reaching the semi-finals. India’s record in the tournament shows they have produced many T20 stars. That’s indeed the case as many dashing batsmen and spectacular bowlers have represented India in T20 World Cups.
In the article, we rank India’s top 10 match-winners in T20 World Cup history:
10. Amit Mishra
The leg-spinner is regarded as one of the unluckiest Indian cricketers ever as he could never get a long run in the national team despite delivering regularly. Be it turning the ball or bowling deceptive googlies, Mishra possessed many weapons in his armoury through which he tormented some of the best batsmen in the world.
He was selected in India’s squad for the 2014 T20 World Cup, which took place in Bangladesh. Many eyebrows were raised when the then Indian captain MS Dhoni included Mishra in the playing XI alongside spin twins Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin.
However, his decision proved to be spot on as the leg-spinner bowled some sensational spells in the competition. The leggie restricted the run-flow in the middle overs and also picked wickets regularly.
In total, he picked 10 wickets in six games which also include two Man of the Match awards. Riding on his brilliance, India advanced to the finals, where they lost against Sri Lanka.
