Ranking top 10 batsmen of World Test Championship (WTC)
Which batsmen will make into the list of the best batsmen of the tournament?
2. Steve Smith
If there’s one cricketer who you would constantly see in every list featuring the best, then it would definitely be Steven Smith. The genius from Australia was one of the best performers of this WTC cycle and it was a shame that we couldn’t see more of him. Smith was playing the WTC 2019-2021 without any proper Test match practise as his first Test match after the ban was the Ashes 2019 which also came under this WTC cycle.
However, the unstoppable force was least affected by that as he went on to score runs for fun in the Ashes 2019. With 774 runs in just 7 innings, Smith was batting in a league on his own. That wasn’t it as he was superb in the Aussie summer against New Zealand and India in 2020 and 2021 respectively. His standards are so freaking high that despite not being at his best and having a few bad games, he still ended up being the second best batsman of WTC 2019-2021.
The run machine scored 1341 runs in this WTC cycle at an average and strike rate of 63.85 and 53.44 respectively. In the process, he also ended up scoring 4 hundreds and 1 double hundred.
