Cricket has witnessed many changes over the years, and the process of transition will continue with time. While many players from the country made a mark worldwide, the national jerseys have left the fashionistas impressed. India’s kit in the 2014 T20 World Cup in Bangladesh has to be one of the best jerseys the national team has donned. The blue colour was slightly darker than the previous jerseys, exhibiting the intensity in the team. On top of that, there were some red, white and green stripes to give the attire a bit more volume. The quality of the material made the jersey a bit shinier, which also impressed the fans. Hence, this jersey deserves a place on this list. Notably, Team India enjoyed a memorable time in jersey. They defeated giants like Australia, England, West Indies and Sri Lanka in ODI series. Speaking of the shortest format, they reached the final of the 2014 T20 World Cup. While their players couldn’t do much in the marquee competition, Sri Lanka’s jersey left many fans amused. The kit features turtle-like figures instead of the more familiar lion. Also, the colours include light yellow and blue besides their original dark blue shed. The composition of different primary colours was indeed subtle and not overpowering. It was indeed a perfect jersey with the green colour doing all the talking. It was a bright green kit with a prominent dark green star in the front. What made this jersey stand out from the other ones worn by the team was ‘Pakistan’ written in Urdu inside the star. Apart from that, the edges of the uniform were also dark green, and the white strap in the collar and cuff also looked balanced. Meanwhile, Pakistan enjoyed a stellar campaign in the 1999 World Cup and even reached the finals. However, they lost to eventual champions Australia in the summit clash. Led by Michael Clarke, the Men in Yellow won the mega tournament for the fifth time. While the Australian players earned praises for their spectacular show, their yellow jerseys also received a lot of attention. The kit seemed like a perfect Australian jersey as the yellow colour hogged the maximum area while there was green in the edges and armhole. Another feature of the kit which deserves appreciation is the design of the stars in the middle, representing the national flag. The stars didn’t really dominate the T-shirt but still managed to stand out. The iconic jersey looked even shinier after Steve Smith smashed the winning runs in the finals to take Aussies to glory. 6. West Indies – 2019 World Cup West Indies – 2019 World cup. Despite maroon being a dark colour, the Caribbean team’s jersey was soothing to the eyes due to a shine in the kit. ‘West Indies’ was written in the middle, with the WICB logo being on the left side. Also, there was a design of a tree in the jersey, representing the Caribbean Islands. Another aspect that needs to be highlighted in the kit was colour distribution. The maroon in the chest and shoulder area was dark, but the colour was lighter in the lower parts. The yellow colour in the button and edges also suited well. Unfortunately, West Indies didn’t have such a beautiful campaign as their jersey. The Jason Holder-led side won just two of their nine league-stage games and got knocked out of the tournament. With giants like AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn in ranks, South Africa were the front-runners to win the competition but couldn’t even clear the group stage. However, their jersey in the tournament earned appreciation. The green and yellow symbolise their national flag colours quite well. The flower blends in beautifully with the t-shirt to create a spectral effect. If one has to summarize the jersey, the green colour in the entire kit was getting balanced by yellow. It was indeed one of the best jerseys, if not the best, donned by the South African cricket team. Hence, the Proteas should have performed better with this kit during the tournament. 4. For the 2017 Champions Trophy at home, England went with a unique navy blue and pink design. It was indeed not a straightforward choice as the English side had never sported such a kit before. However, the sharp colours in the jersey made it many fans’ favourite. The purple colour had the major domination and the pink colour in the waist region provided the required balance. Interestingly, Eoin Morgan’s men had a great time with the purple and pink kit. While they reached the semi-finals of the 2017 Champions Trophy, the Three Lions defeated India, Australia and New Zealand in bilateral ODI series. 3. At number three, we put Australia’s retro kit from the 1999 World Cup. The kit had a perfect blend of yellow and green, making it arguably the best Aussie jersey to date. Like most of the Australian kit’s designs, it was an all-gold uniform. However, what made it stand out is the design of green shooting stars in the middle. The green colour in the collar and cap also looked quite stable. Steve Waugh’s men made justice to the stellar design by lifting the World Cup trophy in that kit. In 2019, an online poll showed that fans voted this jersey as the best Australian kit ever. Moreover, the current Australian team donned the same retro jersey during the home ODI series against New Zealand last year. 2. India – 2002 Natwest Trophy India – 2002 Natwest Trophy. Under Sourav Ganguly’s leadership, the Men in Blue performed brilliantly as a unit and thrashed the Three Lions at their own den. Apart from players, the Indian jersey in that tour was also highly appreciated. It was a trademark blue from top to bottom, but the national tricolour design in the middle put the jersey second in the list. Although there weren’t any dark colours, the features of the jersey were sharp, and one shouldn’t be surprised if the current Indian team sports this design again. Notably, the stellar design isn’t the only reason behind the popularity of this kit. After all, who can forget the then Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly taking off his t-shirt in the Lord’s balcony after India had won the final match? 1. Most of the Kiwi team’s jerseys comprised black colour assisted by a bit of white in edges and collars. However, the Blackcaps sported an entirely different kit in the 1999 World Cup, with the green colour dominating the top part. There was also a kiwi feather in the middle, representing New Zealand’s national flag. Notably, the authenticity of the New Zealand jersey remained, with the bottom part comprising black colour. While the jersey in the 1999 World Cup was alluring, the features of the kit became sharper when the current New Zealand team donned the retro attire during the ODI series against Australia last year. However, the Kiwis couldn’t get much time in the gear as the three-match series was called off after the first match due to the COVID-19 crisis. After that, the Kiwis didn’t go with the retro kit and opted for the regular black one.
