But even putting these show-biz aspects aside- across its 13-year-history, the IPL has produced countless stories of local players turning their financial luck around. Not only are these incredible, rags-to-riches journeys immensely motivating, but these examples also emphasize the immense commercial success that the IPL is.

But as it turns out, it’s not just the Indian players who earn big in the IPL. A comprehensive analysis of stats shows that 7 Test-playing countries have earned a fortune with their players competing in the IPL. Which countries are these? Exactly how much have they earned?

India’s Eastern cross-country neighbors haven’t been the most prolific IPL participants. Although their tryst with the cash-rich league dates back to the inaugural 2008 season itself; where <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/we-have-a-lot-of-similarities-ab-de-villiers-opens-up-on-his-bond-with-mashrafe-mortaza/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Mashrafe Mortaza</a>, Abdul Razzak, and Mohammad Ashraful were associated with Kolkata, Bangalore and Mumbai respectively, it took Bangladeshi players quite a while to make their IPL presence felt.

It wasn’t until Shakib Al Hasan’s victorious 2012 campaign with KKR that Bangladesh players really started to come to the fore. Shakib stayed with the Knight Riders for five more seasons before he was snapped up by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018 for INR 2.8 Crores; the all-time highest price for a Bangladeshi player in the tourney.

Statistically, though, Shakib’s fellow national teammate, Mustafizur Rahman, has been the more impactful Bangladeshi performer. The lanky left-arm quick was at his fiery best in 2016, where he scalped 17 wickets in SRH’s title-winning season. That performance even earned him the Emerging Player award that year, and as of now, ‘Fizz’ is the only foreign player with that particular title to his name. It’s only fair to assume that the World’s top white-ball tournament will feature several big names from the World’s top white-ball team. But that wasn’t always the case; the early IPL phase saw English players make only sporadic appearances in the tournament.

The England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) reluctance to send their players overseas- coupled with an overlapping home-season- were primarily responsible for the absence of English stars in the IPL’s budding years. But even with those constraints, the likes of Andrew Flintoff (INR 9.8 Crores), Kevin Pietersen (INR 9.8 Crores), and Ravi Bopara (INR 2.8 Crores) featured as marquee international names.

In recent years, however, the ECB has taken U-turn on its stance of restricting English participation. Consequently, England’s IPL revenue has seen a major spike since 2017. Tymal Mills (INR 12 Crores), Ben Stokes (INR 12.5 Crores and 14.5 Crores) and Jofra Archer (INR 7.20 Crores) are among some of the costliest purchases in the neo-era of the tournament.

Keeping in line with their international reputation, the Blackcaps have been among some of the most value-for-money players in the IPL. Season after season, New Zealand has unearthed some of the most consistent yet underrated T20 campaigners.

Brendon McCullum’s first-ever IPL innings of 158* is a tailor-made testament to this statement. The likes of Scott Styris, Ross Taylor, Daniel Vettori, and Shane Bond- 2010’s most-expensive purchase at INR 4.8 Crores- complemented ‘Baz’ ably for their respective teams.

It’s hard to imagine the IPL without the zest of Caribbean flavor. So it’s only logical that West Indies- boasting some of the biggest names in international cricket- features third on the list in terms of the priciest players.

The years from 2008-10 weren’t all that eventful for the West Indies- at least not on the field. Off-field, though, Barbados’ Kieron Pollard emerged as the men in maroon&#8217;s most expensive player, when the Mumbai Indians snapped him up for a whopping INR 4.8 Crores in 2010.

The years following Pollard’s acquisition saw Windies stars arrive in the IPL at full throttle. Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Pollard, Sunil Narine, and Dwayne Smith- among many other Caribbean Kings- comprehensively dominated the mid-decade of the tournament.

In recent seasons, though, AB has faced some stiff competition from his South African contingent of Imran Tahir (1 Crore), Kagiso Rabada (4.8 Crores), and Quinton de Kock (2.8 Crores).

For as intense the on-field rivalry between <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/cricket-teams/australia/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">India and Australia</a> has been, here in the IPL, both the teams have shared a rich vein of history. Perhaps a bit too-rich; as is evidenced from their pinnacle spot on this list.&nbsp; The Aussie juggernaut in the IPL goes back to the inaugural 2008 season. The likes of Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden, and Shane Warne played true to their marquee-reputation and starred in title-winning campaigns for their respective sides. 
The years following the retirement of these legends, too, were packed with quality Australian action. Shane Watson, Shaun Marsh, Michael Hussey, and James Faulkner emerged as household favorites across the 2011-16 period.
But no other Aussie cricketer has ever found their calling in the IPL the way David Warner has for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. As the tournament’s leading overseas-run scorer- third-highest overall- with 5000+ runs to his name, Warner ‘Gadu’ more than justifies the INR 12 Crore price-tag that has been accorded to him. 
Another interesting point about Australians is that their prices often tend to high-ball. Glenn Maxwell (INR 10.75 Crores) and Pat Cummins, the costliest overseas purchase till date, with INR 15.5 Crores to his name, strongly illustrate that point. Besides the players, the myriad of Australian coaches and support-staff involved has also contributed to the Kangaroos’ number-one ranking on the list.

As the most followed T20 league in the World, the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Indian Premier League</a> (IPL) boasts of being one of, if not the richest cricket event. There’s the obvious glamour of fancy endorsements, big-money commercial rights, and exorbitant presentations that speaks for the IPL’s grandeurs.
But even putting these show-biz aspects aside- across its 13-year-history, the IPL has produced countless stories of local players turning their financial luck around. Not only are these incredible, rags-to-riches journeys immensely motivating, but these examples also emphasize the immense commercial success that the IPL is.
But as it turns out, it’s not just the Indian players who earn big in the IPL. A comprehensive analysis of stats shows that 7 Test-playing countries have earned a fortune with their players competing in the IPL. Which countries are these? Exactly how much have they earned?

<h3>7. Bangladesh: INR 28.58 Crores</h3>

India’s Eastern cross-country neighbors haven’t been the most prolific IPL participants. Although their tryst with the cash-rich league dates back to the inaugural 2008 season itself; where <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/we-have-a-lot-of-similarities-ab-de-villiers-opens-up-on-his-bond-with-mashrafe-mortaza/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Mashrafe Mortaza</a>, Abdul Razzak, and Mohammad Ashraful were associated with Kolkata, Bangalore and Mumbai respectively, it took Bangladeshi players quite a while to make their IPL presence felt.
It wasn’t until Shakib Al Hasan’s victorious 2012 campaign with KKR that Bangladesh players really started to come to the fore. Shakib stayed with the Knight Riders for five more seasons before he was snapped up by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018 for INR 2.8 Crores; the all-time highest price for a Bangladeshi player in the tourney. 
Statistically, though, Shakib’s fellow national teammate, Mustafizur Rahman, has been the more impactful Bangladeshi performer. The lanky left-arm quick was at his fiery best in 2016, where he scalped 17 wickets in SRH’s title-winning season. That performance even earned him the Emerging Player award that year, and as of now, ‘Fizz’ is the only foreign player with that particular title to his name. His last IPL stint dates back to 2018 with MI, where he was acquired at a whopping INR 2.2 Crores.
<h3>6. England &#8211; INR 151.36 Crores</h3>

It’s only fair to assume that the World’s top white-ball tournament will feature several big names from the World’s top white-ball team. But that wasn’t always the case; the early IPL phase saw English players make only sporadic appearances in the tournament. 
The England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) reluctance to send their players overseas- coupled with an overlapping home-season- were primarily responsible for the absence of English stars in the IPL’s budding years. But even with those constraints, the likes of Andrew Flintoff (INR 9.8 Crores), Kevin Pietersen (INR 9.8 Crores), and Ravi Bopara (INR 2.8 Crores) featured as marquee international names.
In recent years, however, the ECB has taken U-turn on its stance of restricting English participation. Consequently, England’s IPL revenue has seen a major spike since 2017. Tymal Mills (INR 12 Crores), Ben Stokes (INR 12.5 Crores and 14.5 Crores) and Jofra Archer (INR 7.20 Crores) are among some of the costliest purchases in the neo-era of the tournament. 
<h3>5. New Zealand &#8211; INR 157.71 Crores</h3>

Keeping in line with their international reputation, the Blackcaps have been among some of the most value-for-money players in the IPL. Season after season, New Zealand has unearthed some of the most consistent yet underrated T20 campaigners. 
Brendon McCullum’s first-ever IPL innings of 158* is a tailor-made testament to this statement. The likes of Scott Styris, Ross Taylor, Daniel Vettori, and Shane Bond- 2010’s most-expensive purchase at INR 4.8 Crores- complemented ‘Baz’ ably for their respective teams.
The mid-phase of the IPL was somewhat lean for the Kiwis, with not many prominent names or purchases- barring Corey Anderson (INR 4.5 Crores) and Tim Southee. In recent years, though, the likes of Kane Williamson (3 Crores), Trent Boult (3.2 Crores), and Mitchell McClenaghan (1 Crore) have been prominent names in the tournament. Prominent, but not overly expensive.
Another chunk of New Zealand’s IPL income stems from the personnel involved in coaching the teams. McCullum, Mike Hesson, and Stephen Fleming, among several other New Zealand-based backroom members, substantially contribute to the aforementioned figure.
<h3>4. Sri Lanka &#8211; INR 191.43 Crores</h3>

The Emerald Islanders’ IPL journey has been one of a steep decline in quality. Once heralded as a top white-ball talent-pool; Sri Lanka have now slipped to a point, where, barring a select-few fringe international names, none of their other players even merit a place on the auction list. 
The Lankans’ IPL journey started strong, with the likes of <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/kumar-sangakkara-names-his-batting-heroes-and-most-difficult-fast-bowlers-he-has-ever-faced/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Kumar Sangakkara,</a> Mahela Jayewardene, and Sanath Jayasurya being top-priced names in the inaugural edition. The trend continued for a few more seasons till 2014, when a number of prominent Lankan stars were deemed too old to play and weren’t purchased in the auctions. 
And the ones who were available weren’t impressive enough. Angelo Matthews and Thisara Perera come to mind as two players whose IPL performances really conflicted with their stellar, international repertoire.
As the IPL’s all-time leading wicket-taker, Lasith Malinga has clearly been the most prominent Lankan performer. He (INR 2 Crores) and Isuru Udana (INR 50 Lakhs) are currently the only contracted Sri Lanka players in the tournament. Besides them, Mahela, too, contributes to the Lankan-IPL funds, albeit in a non-playing capacity as the Mumbai Indians’ head coach.

<h3>3. West Indies &#8211; INR 279.89 Crores</h3>

It’s hard to imagine the IPL without the zest of Caribbean flavor. So it’s only logical that West Indies- boasting some of the biggest names in international cricket- features third on the list in terms of the priciest players. 
The years from 2008-10 weren’t all that eventful for the West Indies- at least not on the field. Off-field, though, Barbados’ Kieron Pollard emerged as the men in maroon&#8217;s most expensive player, when the Mumbai Indians snapped him up for a whopping INR 4.8 Crores in 2010. 
The years following Pollard’s acquisition saw Windies stars arrive in the IPL at full throttle. Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Pollard, Sunil Narine, and Dwayne Smith- among many other Caribbean Kings- comprehensively dominated the mid-decade of the tournament. 
And that bandwagon seems to be getting even more crowded, with the likes of Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, and Andre Russell turning up the spice in recent years. Kings XI Punjab’s Sheldon Cottrell, earning INR 8.50 Crores, is the incumbent top-priced Windies player of the tournament. 
<h3>2. South Africa &#8211; INR 428.64 Crores</h3>

But judging from the Proteas’ performances this year, their financial future sure does look quite promising.

As the years rolled by, up-and-coming stars like Dale Steyn, the Morkel brothers, and Faf du Plessis, too, started to leave their mark on the fans. 
But if there has been one South African star who has kept the fans at their feet throughout the IPL’s 13-year history- it has to be RCB’s very-own, AB de Villiers. It’s hardly a surprise that the Mr. 360’s fiery pyrotechnics have earned him the top-priced financial contract of INR 11 Crores among all his other compatriots. 
In recent seasons, though, AB has faced some stiff competition from his South African contingent of Imran Tahir (1 Crore), Kagiso Rabada (4.8 Crores), and Quinton de Kock (2.8 Crores).
