If any country is supposed to know about sportsmanship and what it is, then that is England. They have made the laws of the game and somehow also have governed it in a way that they can tell what is sportsmanship and what is not. Having said that, it has to be said that the English cricket team is always aware of what is bad for the game and what is not. 

There have been times when they have been found on the wrong side of things but in general, English players are known to have bright personalities. You will get one or two players who will like to have a go at someone, but at times the scrutiny can be biased and also show a particular person in a bad light again and again. 

England has upheld the spirit of the game in the years when they have played cricket. I guess you can ask about the bodyline series in the 1930s, but there haven’t been too many unsportsmanlike incidents in their history. Ranking them as the third place holders is a no-brainer.
