India’s Tinseltown was ecstatic after the Mumbai Indians (MI) bagged their fourth Indian Premier League (IPL) title on Sunday, defeating Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by just one run in a tense final in Hyderabad. The match kept on oscillating like a pendulum after MI set a target of 150 before the Super Kings. CSK opener Shane Watson hit 80 off 59 balls but got out at a crucial moment that hurt his team.

Since the Maximum City is the residence of a number of film personalities, the MI’s win naturally gave them great joy. Megastar Amitabh Bachchan expressed his happiness over the MI’s win as did his actor son Abhishek Bachchan and another famed actor Ranveer Singh. Each of them took to Twitter to express their joy after MI snatched their second one-run victory in an IPL final. In 2017, they defeated the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant and that team too had featured Dhoni.

Dhoni’s run-out among turning points feels Ranveer Singh

While Big B uttered the words “WHAT A FINAL” several times in his tweet, Abhishek, who co-owns Chennaiyin FC in the Indian Super League football tournament along with Dhoni, congratulated Mumbai and consoled the CSK saying “hard luck”. Ranveer, on the other hand, felt the run-out of Dhoni was one of the several turning points of the game and praised Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga for their bowling.

While Bumrah was adjudged the man of the match for his 2 for 14, Malinga did well to come back after dropping Watson early in the CSK innings. Earlier, MI won the toss and elected to bat and after facing an initial slump, Kieron Pollard (41 not out off 25) and Hardik Pandya (16 off 10) gave their score some shape.

The victory ahead of the ICC World Cup will certainly boost Rohit Sharma, who led the Indians to win the IPL four times in seven years, and India look to gain from it. For Dhoni and Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli who had another poor season as the skipper, too, the disappointment could prove to be productive in the upcoming mega event.
