On June 25, 1983, team India led by Kapil Dev created history. India defeated the two-time and only champions of One-Day Cricket then, West Indies in a low-scoring affair. They became only the second team ever to win the World Cup and it was no less than a fairytale campaign for the side. Literally nobody had given India a chance to even make it to the semi-final of the mega event.
However, Kapil’s Devils, as they are known, did the unthinkable to create their own legacy in the cricketing arena. The sport’s popularity went to a different level in the country and is one of the powerhouses today. This generation now is set to witness the heroics of Kapil Dev and his team on the silver screen as the Kabir Khan directorial 83′ the Movie is set to release on December 24 this year.
The trailer of the film released on Tuesday (November 30) morning and that has already garnered a lot of attention. It is the much-awaited movie since 2020 as it was initially slated to release on April 10 last year only to be deferred due to outbreak of COVID-19. The release was then postponed to Christmas 2020 and then again for March this year, but the second wave of COVID disrupted the plans again.

The trailer begins with Indian players having fun during their World Cup campaign and it is also shown that the local media makes fun of the Indian captain when he says that they have to come to win the World Cup. The emotions go up a notch in the trailer itself as different situations are portrayed.

Ranveer Singh is playing the role of Indian captain Kapil Dev while his real life wife Deepika Padukone is featuring as Kapil’s wife Romi Bhatia. Pankaj Tripathi is the team Manager Man Singh while pretty decent actors are playing roles of Kris Srikkant, Mohinder Amarnath, Sandeep Patil, Ravi Shastri etc.
With the theatres in India opening only recently, the cricket fans will be excited to witness the thrill on the big screen come December 24.
