Let’s glance over the three most memorable knocks of Nicholas Pooran throughout the CPL history
1. 100* off 45 vs Patriots in 2020
Pooran grabbed the bull by the horns in the game against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots when Guyana were in all sorts of trouble in their pursuit of 151 as they lost their top three batters cheaply inside the powerplay. With the pressure building on the team, the southpaw decided to open his arms and notched up a scintillating 45-ball century, the third fastest in CPL history at the time. His unbeaten century ensured that Guyana strolled past the finishing line with 15 balls to spare.
2. 81 off 39 vs Zouks in 2016
Barbados Tridents welcomed St Lucia Zouks in the 18th league match of the 2016 CPL season and were put in to bat first by St Lucia. After a steady start by the openers, Barbados lost their way with quick wickets in the middle overs and were looking like stumbling to a mediocre total. But a 20-year-old Pooran had other ideas as the wickets at regular intervals did not deter his fearless approach. He smashed the St Lucia’s bowlers all around the park and scored a breathtaking 81 off 39 deliveries before being dismissed. His innings propelled Tridents to 173/5, a total that proved too much for the opposition team as they fell short by 25 runs in their chase.
3. 75* off 39 vs Tallawahs in 2021
Nicholas Pooran came to the rescue for Guyana once again last year after his side were struggling to accumulate runs in the first innings of the 26th match against Jamaica Tallawahs. The southpaw stitched crucial partnership in the middle overs with veteran Shoaib Malik and Anthony Bramble as he slew the Jamaican bowlers in his expeditious 75* off 39 deliveries. His innings ensured that Guyana finished with an above-par score of 169/6. The skipper’s brilliance with the bat was followed by excellent performances by his bowlers, who dismissed Jamaica for a meager 123 in their chase.
