Rashid has set the world alight in T20 cricket: Jason Gillespie

Rashid Khan has now become a household in the cricketing world. He has been a sensation for Afghanistan and continues to woo the fans with his talent. He is loved in his own country that the fans stayed and watched him play even after a suicide bomber detonated a bomb just outside a stadium. The Afghan star is just 19 years of age and has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders.

However, he is going to add another feather to his cap. The young 19-year-old recently made his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and also helped his side to victory in the Shpageeza Cricket League. That said, the young man is going to make his debut in another cash-rich league. Big Bash League is where the Afghan is going next when it comes to franchise cricket.

Adelaide Strikers get hold of Rashid

The Strikers have got their hands on the young superstar. He has the talent to give any batter in the world a hard time. Jason Gillespie was more than just happy after signing the youngster. He said that Rashid is just fantastic in what he does. He has got all the attributes a wrist spinner should have and that makes him even more dangerous.

Gillespie said, “Rashid has set the world alight in T20 cricket with his energy, enthusiasm, and great control for a young guy. He has some great variations, can bowl stump-to-stump and can be very hard to pick.”

Rashid, on the other hand, is happy to play for his country and make his country proud. “I play cricket to bring victories for my country and to make Afghanistan proud on the world stage,” he said while talking to AFP.  He also stated that he now wants to challenge the best in the world and beat the big teams in their own backyard.

“Now I want to play against the world’s best and to challenge the best teams on their home turf,” young Rashid Khan said. Khan wants to bring the World Cup to Afghanistan and that will be his ultimate aim. “I want to bring Afghanistan the Cricket World Cup – this is the ultimate goal of my life,” said Rashid.

Cricket is more than a game in Afghanistan as the country is fighting against terrorism. The leg-spinner said that cricket is more than just entertainment to the people here. He said, “I believe the game of cricket… is a binding force and brings many ethnic groups together and can restore peace and stability to Afghanistan.”
