The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the latest rankings after the conclusion of the 2018 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). India edged Bangladesh in a nail-biting final at Dubai International Cricket Stadium by three wickets to win the One Day championship and gained one rating point, but it wasn’t enough to move to the top position, surpassing England with 127 points.

Sarfraz Ahmed-led Pakistan, after failing to qualify for the final, have lost three points, but are at the fifth position itself. However, the biggest gainers have been Afghanistan, who garnered five rating points after their stupendous campaign in the six-nation tournament. Asghar Afghan’s men gave every team a run for the money but were unable to cross the finishing line.

Rashid topples Shakib

In the meantime, Rohit Sharma, India’s opening batsman, has moved two places up to a career-best second position. Virat Kohli remains to be the top batter in the 50-overs format, despite missing the Asia Cup. Moreover, Rohit’s opening partner Shikhar Dhawan also garnered four points and is in the fifth position. Kuldeep Yadav was the joint highest wicket-taker in the event.

He has moved to a career-best third position. Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian fast-bowler, remains to be the top-ranked ODI bowler. Meanwhile, Rashid Khan went to become the top-ranked all-rounder by gaining six rating points. The 20-year-old cricketer dethroned renowned Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who is currently suffering from a finger injury.

Rashid, apart from his stupendous shows with the leather, also contributed significantly with the willow. Bangladeshi opening batsman Liton Das scored his maiden ODI century in the final and he has jumped 107 positions to reach 116th rank. Pakistani left-handed batsman Imam-ul-Haq has reached a career-best 27th position after he scored three half-centuries in his last six ODIs.
