Rashid Khan breaks the timber with a googly in the BPL
Comilla Victorians won the match by 6 wickets.
The sight of a fast bowler breaking down the timber is pleasing to the eyes. But how often do we get to see a spinner do similar damage? Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan, playing for Comilla Victorians, caused some serious damage during the match against Chittagong Vikings in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The Victorians sealed a win and added vital points to their kitty.
Rashid bowled in-form batsman Dilshan Munaweera, as the batsman was all over the place after failing to read the googly. The 19-year-old spin sensation not only disturbed the stumps but broke the upper portion of the middle stump. The batter went back after scoring 19 off 25 balls. It was Khan’s only wicket in the match, as his figures read 1/17 in 4 overs. The Vikings didn’t really took on Khan, and it looked like they just wanted to see-off his 24 balls. But just when it looked like Khan will go wicketless in the outing, he proved everyone wrong.
Spinners restrict Vikings to 139/4
Misbah-ul-Haq’s side managed 139 in their 20 overs, after the openers- Luke Ronchi and Soumya Sarkar chipped in with 31 and 30 respectively. The spin trio- Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi and Arafat Sunny bowled their hearts out and didn’t let the Vikings score easy runs. At one stage it looked like the Chittagong side will score anything around 175-180 but some economical act by the spinners didn’t let the batsmen fancy their chances.
Chasing 140 to win, Victorians lost the wicket of Tamim Iqbal, with just seven runs on the board. But Imrul Kayes and Jos Buttler kept their heads down and did the recovery act. Kayes missed out his fifty by five runs while Buttler went for 44 off just 31 balls. 30-year-old Kayes bagged the man of the match award. The Comilla camp are now at the third place with 6 points from 4 outings.
