Rashid Khan set to join Lahore Qalandars for the remaining Pakistan Super League 2021

Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan is all set to join the Lahore Qalandars once again for the remainder of the Pakistan Super League 2021 in Abu Dhabi. The renowned spinner played only two matches during the first leg of the tournament, which had started in Pakistan in February. He had to leave the tournament for his international commitments for the Afghanistan team, which had to play against Zimbabwe. 

A few weeks ago, Qalandars had signed up Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan as the replacement for Rashid Khan. PSL had conducted a special draft to fill in the spots in each of the teams that had foreign players missing out. In an interesting turn of events, Shakib pulled out of the tournament, which brought Rashid back in the picture. 

The leg-spinner talked about his excitement to be back with the franchise. I am excited to be back with PSL and Lahore Qalandars,” Rashid said to Cricbuzz. “I had a couple of good games with them earlier and the team went off to a good start, I am hopeful to help them continue with the momentum.”

Rashid Khan to travel to England for T20 Blast right after PSL 2021

Talking about the PSL 2021, the tournament had started on February 20 and was going on in Karachi. All the necessary steps were taken and a bio bubble was set up. But due to a breach, the tournament had to be halted after just 14 matches. This edition will now be entirely played in Abu Dhabi starting from June 1, with the final to be played on June 20. 

Rashid Khan has also signed up for another T20 commitment after the PSL. He will fly directly to England, where he is supposed to be with the Sussex County Cricket Club for the T20 Blast 2021. Rashid said, “I am really looking forward to joining up with my teammates at Sussex upon completion of the PSL. Whilst the travel restrictions in place have been a big factor in delaying my arrival, it is fortunate I am still able to play some high-level cricket before heading to Hove later in June.”

The T20 blast has been scheduled to be played from June 9. Sussex’s first match will be played on June 11. Hence, Rashid will miss some matches at the beginning of the campaign. Sussex has got Travis Head and David Wiese to fill in the overseas slots before the star leg-spinner arrives in the tournament.
