Rashid Khan should be the Prime Minister of Afghanistan, says Farokh Engineer
The former Indian cricketer thinks Rashid is a "great ambassador" for his country.
Former Indian wicketkeeper Farokh Engineer is a fan of the Indian Premier League (IPL), and he considers it a great platform for the youth. Engineer, who was an important cog for the iconic spin quartet of India – Bishen Singh Bedi, Erapalli Prasanna, BS Chandrashekhar and Srinivas Venkataraghavan as he kept for them, in most part of his46 Test matches for India.
He was awarded the honour of Lifetime Achievement award in the CEAT Cricket Awards 2018. The star-studded ceremony saw the 80-year-old shower praises on the current condition of the Indian cricket as well as the recently concluded IPL.
“I’m loving it to see Indian cricket in such a healthy condition. There are plenty of talented youngsters and the IPL brings out the best in them,” Engineer said after receiving the award. He also mentioned the Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan, who has been one of the most impressive emerging players in the IPL. The former Indian cricketer thinks Rashid is a “great ambassador” for his country.
Love Rashid’s attitude
“I love his attitude towards the game,” Engineer said talking about the leggie. “He is always smiling and looks to be enjoying himself. I’m sorry, he didn’t enjoy too much yesterday.” He was referring to the loss of his team Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final of the IPL to Chennai Super Kings.
Rashid received the T20 Bowler of the Year award in the same ceremony, and Engineer’s advice to him is to keep up his love and passion for the game. “Keep up that spirit. You’re a great ambassador for your country,” he said. To end in a humorous tone, he said, ” I think you should be the Prime Minister of Afghanistan.”
A day ago, the 19-year-old himself said that he is probably the most famous Afghan citizen after their president, Ashraf Ghani.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan were also honoured with the International Cricketer of the Year award and International Batsman of the Year award respectively. Another Indian Harmanpreet Kaur bagged the Outstanding Innings of the Year honour.
