Rashid Khan will make a great captain: Colin Ingram
He further lauded the spirit of Afghanistan players
The inaugural edition of the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) concluded a couple of days ago with Mohammad Nabi led Balkh Legends winning the trophy. Chris Gayle scored a crucial fifty but it was Qais Ahmed who won the Man of the Match for his match-winning spell in the first innings. The runners-up were Kabul Zwanan whose captain Rashid Khan went on to win the Player of the Tournament award.
The 20-year-old was quite impressive with his captaincy throughout the tournament. He also impressed with his batting and bowling performances. His teammate and former South African cricketer Colin Ingram was full of praise for the talented youngster. He asserted how Rashid Khan would make a great captain for Afghans in the future. He further lauded the spirit of Afghanistan players as well who were on top of their game throughout the season.
They are blessed with good captains
The Afghanistan team is currently led by Asghar Afghan. However, it’s likely that someone will take over the captaincy job in the next few years. As of now, Rashid Khan is likely to be the next one in line. Colin Ingram asserted that the players had responded really well to Rashid’s leadership. He further described how he enjoyed sharing the dressing room with him.
“Afghanistan are blessed with a couple of really good leaders that we have seen in this tournament. Rashid Khan being a young guy and someone that I’ve played with, I’ve really enjoyed his company. You could see how well our players have responded to him. So, I have no doubt in my mind that if Rashid Khan is in a leadership position in any team he plays in, they will be in good stead,” he was quoted as saying by Khaleej Times.
Exceptional players of spin
After a strong performance in the Asia Cup where they defeated Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and later tied with India, Afghanistan is being looked at as a potential team. Ingram lauded their performances and was quite mesmerised with the talent they produce. He spoke about how even the lower order batsmen were capable of playing spin well.
” I’ve been a big fan of how the guys have played their cricket internationally and even as recently as seeing how they did in the Asia Cup. So, it was fantastic to come and join them and be exposed to young talent. One of the things I’ve been most surprised about is how all the players hit spin. Even the guys coming in at 8, 9, 10, 11 can play spin really well,” the South African added.
