The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is just around the corner. Despite 13 members from the CSK regiment testing positive for Covid-19 on their arrival in UAE, the tournament is expected to go ahead as planned albeit with a few scheduling changes. Fortunately, players from England and Australia will also be available for the whole season as they won’t be required to undergo quarantine after their arrival in UAE.

Since this edition will be hosted by the middle-east nation United Arab Emirates (UAE), many changes will be expected in the starting XIs of various teams. The pitches in UAE may assist spinners; hence the teams with quality spinners in their squad will have an upper hand this season. Teams like CSK and DC have an obvious advantage over pace dominated teams like MI and RR.

IPL is usually famous as a paradise for batsmen; however, of late teams have started realising the importance of having an effective bowling line-up in the squad. Almost every franchise has a few world-class bowlers in their squad.

In this article, we will be rating the bowling line-ups of all teams in IPL 2020:

Much like Kolkata Knight Riders, Royals have many quality bowlers; however, most of them are overseas. Just like previous seasons, they have focused on youngsters this season as well. However, only a few of them seem reliable enough to be included in the starting XI.

The pace attack will be spearheaded by the English sensation <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/jofra-archers-prophetic-tweet-on-suresh-raina-is-doing-rounds-on-social-media/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Jofra Archer</a>. Apart from him, the attack comprises of Tom Curran, Andrew Tye, Ben Stokes and Oshane Thomas. The Indian pacers include Jaydev Unadkat, Varun Aaron, Ankit Rajpoot and younglings Kartik Tyagi and Aakash Singh.

The spin department will be led by the hugely successful wrist spinner Shreyas Gopal. Apart from him, the other spinners are Mayank Markande and Rahul Tewatia, both of them being leg spinners. All-rounders like Riyan Parag, Mahipal Lomror and Anniruddha Joshi complete their spin-attack.

Kolkata Knight Riders always had a strong bowling squad at the beginning of each season. However, this time around, their bowling line up looks a lot weaker than the other teams on paper. Though they have quality foreign bowlers, the restriction of maximum 4 overseas players per game means many of them will warm the bench throughout the season.

The pace attack will be led by Aussie Pat Cummins who was the highest paid player in the auctions ahead of this season. Along with him, Lockie Ferguson and <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/sunil-narine-not-far-behind-andre-russell-in-terms-of-all-round-capabilities-kkr-ceo-venky-mysore/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Andre Russell</a> are other overseas pacers. The Indian pace attack looks bleak with none of the players amongst Shivam Mavi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Prasidh Krishna and Sandeep Warrier having enough experience.

The spin department looks a bit more potent with options like Sunil Narine, Kuldeep Yadav and Chris Green. Varun Chakravarthy and Manimaran Siddarth have proven themselves in regional cricket. Apart for these, Nitish Rana can also bowl effectively in the middle overs.

Kings XI Punjab have been widely criticised for making a batting-dominant line-up every season. This year, however, looks good for the Mohali-based team who have many world-class bowlers in their squad. The pace attack will be led by the Caribbean Sheldon Cottrell who will be making his IPL debut this season. RCB have a knack of building up the most lustrous and expensive squad before each edition of IPL. However, the only thing which has led them down in the previous editions is their inexperienced bowling attack. However, this year RCB has made some big changes in their squad and have come up with an appreciably strong squad.

The pace attack will be spearheaded by the South African legend Dale Steyn. Assisting him primarily will be Chris Morris, Navdeep Saini, Kane Richardson and Isuru Udana from Sri Lanka. The only weak aspect in the pace attack is the unpredictability of bowlers like Umesh Yadav, Shivam Dube and Mohammed Siraj.

The Orange army has been one of the most consistent IPL teams ever since their arrival in 2013. Up until 2016, they were known as a bowling dominating team adept as defending low totals. However, since the last 3 seasons, Sunrisers have also worked heavily on their batting and built up a potent side. In the bowling department, they have world class spinners like <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/cpl-2020-rashid-khan-survives-a-nutcracker-scare-against-the-st-lucia-zouks/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Rashid Khan</a> and Mohammad Nabi in their squad.

Assiting the Afghans in the spin department are Carribean player Fabian Allen as well as Indian tweakers like Abhishek Sharma, Shahbaz Nadeem, Sanjay Yadav and Bavanaka Sandeep. The most exciting aspect of Sunrisers Hyderabad though lies in their Indian pace attack. The Hyderabad based team arguably has the best Indian pace attack this season.

Led by two-time purple cap winner Bhuvneshwar Kumar, it consists of IPL veteran Sandeep Sharma, Siddarth Kaul, Khaleel Ahmed, Basil Thampi and Thangarasu Natarajan. Like Chennai Super Kings, Delhi also has the services of many quality spinners at its disposal. During the transfer window, they got a steal deal in <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ricky-ponting-and-i-are-socially-distanced-ravi-ashwin-on-instagram/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Ravi Ashwin</a> from Kings XI Punjab in exchange for the relatively inexperienced Jagadeesha Suchith and some money. They already have Amit Mishra, the man with the highest number of IPL hat-tricks, Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav in their squad.

Sandeep Lamichhane from Nepal is a prodigious spinner who will again feature for the capitals this season. The pace attack will be led by Kagiso Rabada who was the second highest wicket-taker last season. Absence of Jason Roy and Chris Woakes from this season meant that DC had to look for replacements and they found quality pacers in their stead.

Daniel Sams and Anrich Nortje were signed up as replacements and will strengthen the pace attack. The Indian part of the attack will be spearheaded by the experienced Ishant Sharma, along with Mohit Sharma, Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan and Tushar Deshpande. Ambani’s team might have bagged the first spot on this list, had the tournament been conducted in India. The Mumbai-based team boasts of the best pace attack amongst all the teams in this edition of IPL. Consisting of both old-timers as well as the young blood, Mumbai’s bowling attack can still have a huge impact in the Emirates.

Jasprit Bumrah is arguably the best Indian bowler of the contemporary world. Along with him, Mumbai has the services of the Sri Lankan veteran <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/jasprit-bumrah-mitchell-starc-or-lasith-malinga-aakash-chopra-names-his-pick-to-bowl-a-super-over/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Lasith Malinga</a> as well as the Kiwis Trent Boult and Mitchell McClenaghan. The pace department of CSK is also impressive, having veterans like Dwayne Bravo and Josh Hazlewood as well as newbies like Sam Curran and Lungi Ngidi in their fold. Indian pacers Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur have performed beyond expectations in International cricket and both of them are currently in the scheme of things for national squad. Secondary bowling options like Karn Sharma, R Sai Kishore, Monu Kumar, Kedar Jadhav and KM Asif are also expected to fare well on the UAE pitches.

The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is just around the corner. Despite 13 members from the CSK regiment testing positive for Covid-19 on their arrival in UAE, the tournament is expected to go ahead as planned albeit with a few scheduling changes. Fortunately, players from England and Australia will also be available for the whole season as they won’t be required to undergo quarantine after their arrival in UAE.
Since this edition will be hosted by the middle-east nation United Arab Emirates (UAE), many changes will be expected in the starting XIs of various teams. The pitches in UAE may assist spinners; hence the teams with quality spinners in their squad will have an upper hand this season. Teams like CSK and DC have an obvious advantage over pace dominated teams like MI and RR.
IPL is usually famous as a paradise for batsmen; however, of late teams have started realising the importance of having an effective bowling line-up in the squad. Almost every franchise has a few world-class bowlers in their squad.

Much like Kolkata Knight Riders, Royals have many quality bowlers; however, most of them are overseas. Just like previous seasons, they have focused on youngsters this season as well. However, only a few of them seem reliable enough to be included in the starting XI.
The pace attack will be spearheaded by the English sensation <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/jofra-archers-prophetic-tweet-on-suresh-raina-is-doing-rounds-on-social-media/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Jofra Archer</a>. Apart from him, the attack comprises of Tom Curran, Andrew Tye, Ben Stokes and Oshane Thomas. The Indian pacers include Jaydev Unadkat, Varun Aaron, Ankit Rajpoot and younglings Kartik Tyagi and Aakash Singh.
The spin department will be led by the hugely successful wrist spinner Shreyas Gopal. Apart from him, the other spinners are Mayank Markande and Rahul Tewatia, both of them being leg spinners. All-rounders like Riyan Parag, Mahipal Lomror and Anniruddha Joshi complete their spin-attack.

Kolkata Knight Riders always had a strong bowling squad at the beginning of each season. However, this time around, their bowling line up looks a lot weaker than the other teams on paper. Though they have quality foreign bowlers, the restriction of maximum 4 overseas players per game means many of them will warm the bench throughout the season.
The pace attack will be led by Aussie Pat Cummins who was the highest paid player in the auctions ahead of this season. Along with him, Lockie Ferguson and <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/sunil-narine-not-far-behind-andre-russell-in-terms-of-all-round-capabilities-kkr-ceo-venky-mysore/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Andre Russell</a> are other overseas pacers. The Indian pace attack looks bleak with none of the players amongst Shivam Mavi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Prasidh Krishna and Sandeep Warrier having enough experience.

Kings XI Punjab have been widely criticised for making a batting-dominant line-up every season. This year, however, looks good for the Mohali-based team who have many world-class bowlers in their squad. Unlike previous seasons, KXIP may face the problem of plenty while deciding the playing XI for this season.
The pace attack will be led by the Caribbean Sheldon Cottrell who will be making his IPL debut this season. Along with him, Chris Jordan, James Neesham and Hardus Vijoen can play an important assisting role. The Indian-prong of the pacers will be led by the experienced Mohammed Shami along with Ishan Porel, Arshdeep Singh and Darshan Nalkande.

RCB have a knack of building up the most lustrous and expensive squad before each edition of IPL. However, the only thing which has led them down in the previous editions is their inexperienced bowling attack. However, this year RCB has made some big changes in their squad and have come up with an appreciably strong squad.
The pace attack will be spearheaded by the South African legend Dale Steyn. Assisting him primarily will be Chris Morris, Navdeep Saini, Kane Richardson and Isuru Udana from Sri Lanka. The only weak aspect in the pace attack is the unpredictability of bowlers like Umesh Yadav, Shivam Dube and Mohammed Siraj.

The Orange army has been one of the most consistent IPL teams ever since their arrival in 2013. Up until 2016, they were known as a bowling dominating team adept as defending low totals. However, since the last 3 seasons, Sunrisers have also worked heavily on their batting and built up a potent side.
