One of the greatest speedsters of South Africa Dale Steyn has come with his opinions on India’s ace off-spinner Ravi Ashwin. Steyn asserted that Ashwin might be India’s most vital aspect in their upcoming five-match Test series against England. India would be up in a five-match Test series which is set to commence on August 04 and will mark commencement for the 2021-23 cycle of the World Test Championship.
Steyn stated that the team should think wisely and not just give all the importance to seamers. He also highlighted the importance of spinners especially against the teams like England and Australia who have had a history of struggling against quality tweakers. Steyn added that it might be unusual of him to think so but Ashwin can definitely be India’s biggest trump card going ahead.
“Maybe it’s out-of-the-box thinking here from me, but I think we’re putting a lot of emphasis on the seamers when someone like R Ashwin might be the biggest key for India. As these five Test matches go on, I think spin will be the difference,” wrote Steyn in his column for ESPNcrincinfo.
Ravi Ashwin is the kind of bowler who bowls tons and tons of overs: Steyn
“Ashwin is the kind of bowler who bowls tons and tons of overs. Teams like England and Australia, who are so good at playing seamers and seamer-friendly conditions, don’t tend to play spin particularly well. So Ashwin might be the biggest trump card that India has going forward,” added Steyn.
Talking about Ravi Ashwin, he has been India’s go-to bowlers in the whites for quite a long now. He was last seen playing World Test Championship final against New Zealand that India lost eventually. It has to be noted that the conditions in the WTC finale supported the seamers but Ashwin still didn’t look any faint to bag success for India.
Talking about his figures now, the great spinner has 413 wickets under his belt and is the second-ranked bowler in ICC Test ratings. It will be a thing to see if Ashwin can unfold his magic against England next month.
