Ajaz Patel had an outing to remember in New Zealand’s second and final Test against India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The tweaker picked up 14 wickets in the match, but the Black Caps lost by 372 runs and conceded the series 0-1. In the first innings, he picked up all 10 wickets and became the third bowler after Jim Laker and Anil Kumble to the milestone.

Patel also picked up four wickets in the second innings, but the Black Caps folded in a tad over four days. He was the standout bowler for the Kiwis in the series, although he couldn’t save his team from a defeat. In the meantime, Indian spinner Ravi Ashwin was a bit unhappy. He found it hard to comprehend that Patel’s Twitter account wasn’t verified despite his heroics.

Asking for verification, Ashwin took to Twitter and wrote, “Dear @verified, a ten-wicket bag in an innings definitely deserves to be verified here! @AjazP.“

Soon after Patel’s Twitter account was verified and Ashwin acknowledged the microblogging site for their gesture. Ashwin wrote, “Thank you @verified.“

Ashwin’s tweet for Ajaz Patel

After India’s win, Ashwin, who became the Player of the Series with 14 scalps and 70 runs, was over the moon. He praised the hosts for beating the winners of the inaugural World Test Championship. Back in June, the Kiwis defeated India in the WTC final at the Rose Bowl in Edgbaston.

Ashwin also praised Mayank Agarwal and Patel for their stupendous individual performance. Mayank became the Player of the Match in Mumbai after scoring a ton in the first innings.

“A series win over the world champs ! Feels great to win a test at the Wankhede always. A fab innings by @mayankcricket and great bowling performance by @AjazP. A special thanks to the @NorthStandGang for their support through the game,“ Ashwin wrote.

Later, replying to Ashwin’s tweet, Patel lauded the Indian spinner for the words of appreciation. He also congratulated Agarwal for the match-winning knock.

“Congrats on the much-deserved award @ashwinravi99! And thank you for your humility and kind words. Really humbled and honored to have the opportunity to talk bowling with you! Well done @mayankcricket bhai on an amazing knock,“ Patel replied.
