During the SCG Test, Indian all-rounder Ravi Ashwin and Australian captain Tim Paine were involved in a heated exchange. It happened during the final day’s play when Ashwin was showing some great rear-guard action against the fiery Aussie bowling attack. The incident didn’t ruffle Ashwin, who went on to stay unbeaten, taking India to a draw from a precarious position.

At the other end, Ashwin had Hanuma Vihari, who also showed nerves of steel and played until the very end. It goes without saying Ashwin managed to get under the hosts’ skin with his grit and resilience. That’s when Paine decided to ruffle the right-hander and disturb his concentration.

Ravi Ashwin hits back

Paine started by inviting Ashwin for the fourth and final Test at The Gabba in Brisbane, starting January 15. “Can’t wait to get you to the Gabba, Ash,” Paine said while starting the conversation.

Ashwin isn’t someone to die wondering. He hit back with a scathing reply as well. “Can’t wait to get you to India, it’ll be your last series,” Ashwin replied.

Paine didn’t budge and this time around, he reverted in an abusive tone. “At least my teammates like me, d⋆⋆⋆⋆ead,” the Aussie skipper hit back.

Stuart Broad, the veteran England fast bowler, on the incident, said that banters are part and parcel of the game. However, he also said that Paine shouldn’t get away after the language the latter used.

Broad took to Twitter and wrote, “This is all a part of the game. The Test match battle but Painey won’t get away with that Language with the Laws above.”

In the meantime, Ravi Ashwin’s wife Prithi gave her husband a hilarious piece of advice for tackling Paine’s sledges. Referring to their daughter Aadhya, she took to Twitter and wrote, “Just imagine it is Aadhya crying nonstop at 3 am and ignore.”

Here’s the tweet

Earlier, Prithi lauded her better-half for playing the game-saving knock after enduring severe back pain the night before. “The man went to bed last night with a terrible back tweak and in unbelievable pain. He could not stand up straight when he woke up this morning. Could not bend down to tie his shoelaces. I am amazed at what @ashwinravi99 pulled off today,” she wrote.
