India finished the day 1 of the second Test in a position of strength with both Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara slamming tons and almost batting Sri Lanka out of the match on the very first day. But certain moments in the match were really frustrating for the Indian dugout; KL Rahul getting out in a peculiar way was one of them.

India entered the second session of the day losing just one wicket. Rahul completed his fifty and Pujara had faced over fifty balls by then. Just when the fans thought something really big was on the cards, an unfortunate miscommunication flabbergasted the Indian fans and the opener walked back to the dressing room.

Rahul dabbed the ball to cover point and called for a run. Pujara consented his request and walked a couple of steps forward. The latter immediately turned down the run but Rahul came too far across and it was a simple run out to inflict for wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella.

The right-hander was palpably agonized as he missed out on yet another opportunity to register a big score. In the Test series against Australia in April as well, the 25-year-old got starts but failed to convert them into sizeable scores. A stagnant Ravi Shastri sitting in the dressing room was spotted with a disgusted expression and clearly, he was unhappy watching the events unfold.

Spectacular comeback for the Karnataka batter

Earlier shoulder surgery ruled him out of the IPL and the Champions Trophy, but KL Rahul is back with a bang, or it would be right to put it this way, he’s picked up from where he left. Being out of the circuit for so long often leaves the player rusty but there was no such signs in his body language and he seemed very comfortable at the crease.

Sadly, he couldn’t score big after getting such a brilliant start and the way he got is just a perfect pinch on the wound. He had scored 57 off 82 balls, spanking seven boundaries in his stay in the middle.
