Ravi Shastri doesn't want passengers in India’s World Cup squad
He also highlighted the talent and skill the team possesses.
India’s head coach Ravi Shastri is sounding more confident as India inch closer to the World Cup due to kick off in May in England and Wales. The Men in Blue’s performance over the last few months has been more than impressive as they haven’t lost a single series in any format since going down to England 1-4 in the longer format series last year. Though they lost a few games in between including their first T20I against New Zealand on Wednesday, the team’s overall show has been praiseworthy.
India are one of the few sides that will go into the WC as favourites and with their team more or less settled now for the mega event, the fans can expect their heroes to deliver when it will matter. Head coach Ravi Shastri recently spoke on the team and feels that every department have special talents to do the job. Moreover, he also went on to say that the team doesn’t need passengers during the World Cup and any player should put his hand up during the crisis time in the tournament.
India have got talent and skill
“Nothing is missing really. But it is about just identifying who is the best for a particular position. We have got talent, we have skill, we have fast bowlers and we have belief. We have last two positions to consider and the selectors are on our page,” Ravi Shastri said in an exclusive interview to Cricbuzz.
“Only thing, I don’t want passengers in the World Cup squad. We want players who are part of the team and can play at any time. I don’t want an extra this or that, if someone gets injured, no. I want a guy who can play anytime depending on the conditions and that’s one of the qualities of a top team – to be flexible at any time,” he said.
Shastri, who played in three World Cups (1983-1992), also had words of praise for Vijay Shankar, who came out bright in the final ODI against New Zealand in Wellington last Sunday. India will be led by Virat Kohli in the showpiece event and he will be the seventh captain to do so after Mohammed Azharuddin (thrice), Srinivas Venkataraghavan, Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni (twice each), Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid (once each).
