Newly appointed head coach Ravi Shastri said that he will have a talk with former coach Anil Kumble when he gets a chance. Ravi Shastri had done the same when Kumble succeeded the 55-year-old as the head coach of the Indian team in 2016.
According to Shastri, he is willing to hold a discussion with the legendary leg spinner when he meets him. He also mentioned that he did not get the opportunity to share a few words with Kumble this time after being selected as the coach.
“When I meet him (Kumble) I will have a chat. Yes, when I bump into him, I will have a discussion,” Ravi Shastri told Mirror. He added that he did not get the “chance to interact with anybody this time so far.”
Ravi Shastri highlighted the fact that a successful coach is one who creates an easy atmosphere for his players to put in their 100% on the field. “The coach’s role comes in creating an environment where the boys can deliver their best. You have to make them comfortable with the environment.” said Shastri.
On Virat Kohli:
Shastri edged past the likes of Virender Sehwag and Tom Moody because of his smooth relation with Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Virat Kohli has been highly criticised for his chapter with Anil Kumble but Ravi Shastri showered praise on the present Indian skipper.
“He is a top bloke and a tough character. He is a great role model for the youngsters,” Shastri said.
On the Indian team:
Ravi Shastri who is all set to start his second spell in the position claimed that the team has the capability to become one of the greatest Indian sides ever. “I will have a meeting with them in Sri Lanka but I have no doubt that it is a brilliant team that has the potential to do what no other Indian team has ever done in the past.” said the coach.
According to Ravi Shastri, the futures of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh will primarily depend upon their form and fitness. “We have to see the current form and fitness. Whoever is getting runs and is fit, will play,” he said.
