Ravi Shastri feels great to reunite with the boys
The Indian team along with the coach and the support staff headed off to Sri Lanka for the upcoming tour.
After much ado about nothing, Ravi Shastri was finally appointed as the coach of the Indian cricket team earlier this month. Ever since the stepping down of Anil Kumble from the post, cricket in the country has been every bit of a family drama. At first, Shastri had not even applied thinking that Kumble, who had not resigned then, would be an automatic choice. However, with Virat Kohli had ‘reservations’ with the former coach’s ‘style’ and the partnership was always going to be ‘untenable’.
Following Kumble’s resignation, the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) re-invited fresh applications and even, reportedly, assured Ravi that he would get the job should he apply. Shastri, who had previously worked with Kohli during his tenure as the Team Director, promptly applied for the post.
The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) then interviewed five of the ten applicants. However, they did not announce the name of the coach immediately saying that they needed to consult with Kohli over the matter. But the Committee of Administration (CoA) intervened and instructed the BCCI to make the announcement.
Soon, Shastri was declared the head coach. The saga should have ended there but it was not to be. After Zaheer Khan and Rahul Dravid were named bowling and batting consultants, Shastri demanded the support staff of his preference. Finally, the CoA took the decision on the support staff and named Bharat Arun as the new bowling coach whilst retaining the duo of Sanjay Bangar and R Sridhar.
With the drama over, the Indian team along with the coach and the support staff headed off to Sri Lanka for the upcoming tour. Reunited with the team, Shastri took to Twitter to say that it feels like yesterday. Of course, he was with the team just a year back and it does feel like yesterday.
