Ravi Shastri feels Prithvi Shaw's batting style is a blend of two Indian legends
The youngster has immensely impressed India's head coach.
After the blistering start to his international career, Team India’s head coach Ravi Shastri heaped praises on the young Prithvi Shaw. Making his Test debut at 18, the Mumbai batsman showed a lot of maturity and played a gem of a knock. He stunned the entire cricketing fraternity with his immense talent.
Shastri was also among those who was mesmerised by Shaw. He took it to the micro-blogging site Twitter to shower praise on the teen. He wrote that Shaw put up a free and fearless performance on his debut and compared him with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag.
Prithvi puts up a ‘Shawn’sational show
Prithvi Shaw is the second youngest Indian overall to score a century in Tests and stands seventh on the overall list. After the initial nerves, he eased out perfectly well and adapted as ‘fish is to water’. He played some glorious drives complemented by a few big shots and looked to be very fluent in his stroke-making. Hence, Ravi Shastri couldn’t restrict himself from comparing him with Sachin and Sehwag.
“Well played young man @PrithviShaw for a free and fearless performance on debut. A bit of Viru and the Master there #INDvsWI,” Shastri tweeted.
Although he lost his partner KL Rahul right at the start, Shaw went on to build a wonderful partnership with Cheteshwar Pujara. The duo added 206 runs together. While Pujara missed out on his century narrowly, Shaw scored 134 runs off 154 balls. But after all the domination, he got out to a rather harmless delivery by chipping one back into the hands of Devendra Bishoo.
The youngster will be now keen on carrying on in the same vein and make the most of this opportunity. All eyes will now be on his performances in Australia where India are scheduled to play four Test matches.
