Team India’s journey ended in T20 World Cup 2021 on a heart-breaking note as they failed to make it to the next round of the tournament. Along with this, the tenure of head coach Ravi Shastri also came to an end with team India who pushed the team to attain several heights in all these years. The journey has been eventful for India as the team went on to win several bilateral series under his tutelage.
In the same light, wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik opened up on his thoughts for Shastri, who would no longer be seen with the Indian team now. Karthik added that Shastri took the Indian team to new heights where apart from bowling and batting, the levels of fielding also improved significantly.
“We should remember all the good things he did to the team. He took the charge of the team very well and steadied the ship while developing a great bond with all the support staff. We know that they haven’t won an ICC Trophy but we must remember that their bilateral wins are second to none. He has done some fabulous work as a coach and I thoroughly enjoyed the limited time I spent with him,” said Karthik while speaking to Cricbuzz.
Ravi Shastri’s legacy is great with the number of famous bilateral wins: Doull
Moving further in the conversation, former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull stated that Shastri along with Bharat Arun, and R Sridhar have done a great job for India and India have marked some great wins on the foreign land.
“Shastri’s legacy is great and I think it boils down to the number of famous bilateral victories they have had. The spirit he has put in the team is amazing where players have fought back strongly. Look at the last Australia series where India bounced back so well and that’s the greatest series I’ve watched after the 2005 Ashes. He has left the team in a better state than when he started,” added Simon Doull.
Rahul Dravid has been appointed as the new head coach of team India who will take up the charge from the New Zealand series.
