Ravi Shastri lauds Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli's match winning partnership
The duo of Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan put up an unbeaten 197-run stand.
India yesterday registered their biggest win in terms overs to spare while chasing a target over 200. And Team India head coach Ravi Shastri could not hide his delight. He soon posted a picture of Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan and mentioned that it was a clinical and professional performance by the duo. It was once again the ‘Shikhar Dhawan show’.
The opener scored an unbeaten 132 off just 90 balls, his third hundred in the ongoing tour of Sri Lanka. The hosts could only manage 216 in 43.2 overs before standing as mere spectators and watch the Indian top-order finish the game in 28.5 overs.
Dhawan on a roll, skipper Kohli joins in
Dhawan had earlier scored a couple of centuries in the Test series. He also received the Man of the Match award for taking his side home. Apart from the left-handed batsman, Indian skipper Kohli also chipped in with an unbeaten 80 off 72 balls. Kohli plugged 10 boundaries and a six. Dhawan, on the other hand, whacked 20 boundaries and 3 sixes.
We thought we would chase close to 300: Kohli
After the game, skipper Kohli said, “They got off to a really good start. We thought we would chase close to 300, it was a good pitch to bat on. The point of batting second was that it would come on later in the day. It came on like a dream. The last three months have been a great tome for Dhawan and he’s cashing in on his purple patch. Hopefully he stays in this happy zone and we’ll make sure he stays there, because he will win you games as long he’s in it. Once he starts going, it’s very difficult to stop him.”
Dhawan too was excited after playing the sheet-anchors role, he said: “Things have been going well for me and I’ve just been focussing on my processes. I have mental freedom and when you perform well, you have extra confidence. By the grace of god, things are going my way. Just wanted to play positively and on the merit of the ball today.”
