Ravi Shastri signifies usefulness of Suresh Raina’s experience
The southpaw is eyeing a comeback into the one-day side as well for the Indian cricket team.
Suresh Raina is regarded as one of India’s most dynamic cricketers, especially in limited overs cricket. Not only has he wielded magic with the willow, but he has also shown agility as an outfielder and has also been a safe catcher. However, the cricketer struggled to stay put in his position and was sidelined from the Indian squad for more than one year.
Nevertheless, the Uttar Pradesh cricketer has had a tremendous run in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament and scored a century against Bengal at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Subsequently, he was drafted into the Indian T20I steam for their tour of South Africa. He sparked flashes of brilliance in the first couple of games, however, was unable to convert the starts.
Nevertheless, he scored a quick-fire 43 runs off 27 balls in the deciding encounter and subsequently, he was crowned as the Player of the Match. Ravi Shastri, the Indian head coach, recently spoke to the media and hailed Raina’s value-addition to the squad.
Raina’s fearless brand of cricket
“He’s vastly experienced and he showed what experience can do. What I liked the best was he was fearless.” Shastri was quoted as saying by India Today. The former Indian all-rounder also appreciated Raina’s approach towards the games in order to reinstate his position in the national team.
“What I liked was the intent because normally when you come back into a side after a long period of time you can be playing for your place. And that can put added pressure on you. But he went out there as if he was never out of the side and batted in that fashion. It was very good to see.” he added.
Following a decent comeback, Raina has also been rewarded with a berth in the upcoming triangular T20I series featuring Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The cricketer will be hoping to string together some impressive shows in the series and cement his position in the team.
