Ravi Shastri to cost BCCI 2 crores less than Anil Kumble
According to certain reports, Ravi Shastri will earn Rs. 7 crore a year in the two-year contract that has been handed over to him.
Newly appointed head coach Ravi Shastri’s salary will be decided by a 4 member panel that has been selected by the BCCI. The members of the panel will be BCCI acting president CK Khanna, CEO Rahul Johri, Committee of Administrators (CoA) member Diana Edulji.
According to certain reports, Ravi Shastri will earn Rs. 7 crore a year in the two-year contract that has been handed over to him. It is known that Anil Kumble demanded around 9 crores per year which would see him earn as much as a Grade A player and was considered to be too high.
The CoA gathered for a meeting on Tuesday and they accepted the appointment of Ravi Shastri as the Indian head coach. But the body stayed away from making a decision on the appointment of Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan as the overseas batting consultant and bowling coach respectively.
What the CoA had to say:
There is no doubt over the fact that Ravi Shastri had support from skipper Virat Kohli and has demanded the rights to choose his own support staff. Shastri is scheduled to sit in a meeting with the 4 member panel on Wednesday (July 19) to discuss his support staffs and salary.
“We will further discuss with Shastri the appointment of other coaches. We have set up a committee and they will speak to the CAC, communicate with them after talking to Shastri. The support staff has been decided in consultation with the head coach,” CoA head Vinod Rai said.
“Three appointments which are core to the coaching team have been decided. But we have to consult each one of them, we have to ascertain their willingness and have to ensure that there is no conflict of interest issue.”
“It’s only a recommendation. It’s not an appointment. A recommendation has been made and the CoA has to act on the recommendation which will be done only after consultation with the head coach.
The CoA has made it crystal clear that the names of Dravid and Zaheer were just suggestions put forward by the CAC and will be finalised only after a thorough discussion with Shastri.
