Team India head coach Ravi Shastri often known to do something flamboyant and unique, welcomed 2018 in his own style as he turned DJ for the team for the New Years’ Eve party. He took to Twitter where he can be seen enjoying his time at the DJ console at the party.
Just yesterday, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan were also seen having at Cape Town showing off their dance moves on the streets, as the world ushered in the New Year. Ahead of the tour
Addressing the first press conference after arriving in South Africa, Shastri said adaptability to foreign conditions will be the key to success for the Indian team. India have not won a Test series in South Africa till date and now is their best chance to turn their fortunes considering the kind of form the team is in. After playing a long, gruelling home season in the subcontinent, adapting to the pitches overseas will be a challenge and how well the players will be able to adapt to these conditions.
“All I can say is the team is up for the challenge. If you asked me four years ago, I would have said no. But this team has gained in experience,” said Shastri.
India were able to beat all oppositions that toured in the last one year, their success was congruent to the success of the fast bowlers. With the likes of Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav being the regular fast bowlers, they now have the option of Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah as well.
“The beauty of this team is it does not matter which opposition it is. We respect all opposition. We look at the pitch and adapt to those conditions. You have got bench strength in your fast bowling department which is the key in taking 20 wickets,” he added, as reported by News 18.
Asked whether India’s fast bowling strength will give the curators second thoughts about preparing spicy pitches, Shastri said, “For us every game is a home game. Even this is a home game for us at Newlands. You see the pitch, you adapt. No excuses, no complaints. Two teams have to play on that surface,” he said.
