The interviews, which will be conducted by the CAC – Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman for the selection of the head coach, will start from 1 PM in Mumbai.
According to India Today, they were initially scheduled to start at 12:30 pm but Sachin Tendulkar, who is in London, had requested for an 8:30 am start London time.
Ravi Shastri, the front-runner for the position
The message from the Board of Control for Cricket in India to the CAC and the selection panel is that the captain and the coach should not find it difficult to get along, which makes for the former Team Indian director Ravi Shastri the most suitable candidate. The right-handed opener Sehwag remains as the second favourite for the top job.
Anil Kumble’s tenure lasted exactly for a year after skipper Virat Kohli had differences in the style. In a statement, hours after tendering his resignation, Kumble said that he was told by the Indian board that Kohli was not satisfied with his ‘style of coaching’.
The tenure of the next coach will be till the World Cup 2019 and considering how important this the time leading into the tournament is the CAC, as well as BCCI, will want to pick a candidate who the players are already comfortable with.
