Pakistan is currently taking part in a two-match Test series versus England. They comprehensively managed to win the opening Test at Lord’s- The Home of Cricket- by nine wickets. The Sarfraz Ahmed-captained them were clinical throughout and didn’t allow their opponents a foothold into the contest. The visitors bowled out Joe Root’s men for 184 runs to start with.
Mohammad Abbas and Hasan Ali notched four-wicket-hauls each and never allowed the hosts to settle into a rhythm. In Pakistan’s first innings no one scored big but ensured that they perform as a unit and rack a massive lead of 179 runs. In the second innings, Jos Buttler and Dominic Bess tried to stage a comeback and managed to save England from an innings defeat.
Amir’s brilliance with the ball
However, the duo couldn’t help the team from evading a thumping loss. Mohammad Amir was phenomenal and churned out a brilliant spell of 18.1-3-36-4. He picked up his first wicket in the form of Dawid Malan when the left-hander nicked the ball into Sarfraz’s webbings. In that very over, the pacer rattled Jonny Bairstow’s woodwork to give England their fourth blow.
He had to wait quite a while for his fourth wicket. After Abbas broke the stand between Buttler and Bess, Amir cleaned up the tail with a couple rippers. Mark Wood fended at the ball, which was angled away, and edged it to Sarfraz who grasped a simple catch. In his very next over, he nipped out the final wicket of Dominic Bess with another corker.
Amir speared in a full-length delivery underneath Bess’ bat. The Englishman went for a drive only to see his woodwork go for a toss. With that wicket, the hosts were shot out for 242 runs and Pakistan were set a modest target of 64, which they accomplished without much fuss.
Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin, who ended his stint with the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), praised Amir for his masterful spell of bowling. He took to Twitter and appreciated the fast bowler.
