Ravichandran Ashwin bowls leg spin in Irani Trophy 2018

Ace Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is renowned for his skills with the ball in hand. He is one of the leading spinners in the Indian cricket at the moment. Ashwin has been bamboozling the opposition batters with his off-spin deliveries over the years. But in his most recent appearance, Ashwin stunned the cricket world by bowling a lot of leg spin variations.

Ravichandran Ashwin is a part of the Rest of India (ROI) team that is currently playing against the Ranji Trophy champions Vidarbha in the ongoing Irani Trophy 2018. On the first day of the match, Ashwin bowled the maximum number of overs for his side. There was very little on offer for the bowlers at the track in Nagpur.

Hence, in order to extract something out of the track, Ashwin tried out all his variations. The first day of the Irani Trophy was dominated by Wasim Jaffer’s ton. Vidarbha finished the day with 289/2 with Ravichandran Ashwin being the pick of the bowlers for ROI with 1/66 to his name in the 25 overs that he bowled on the day.

Ashwin has been trying to add variations to his repertoire. In the recent times, he has fallen off the radar of the selectors of the national side. While he is a regular face in the Test side, his place in the limited overs cricket has been taken by the wrist spinners. Also, the wrist spinners are fetching more rewards in the shorter formats.

Hence, the decision to add leg spin to his bowling certainly looks like a very prudent attempt to get back to the national side in the limited overs cricket. In any case, the fans are certainly liking the way he is bowling leg spinners. The social media handle of the BCCI added a video of the same recently.
