Ravichandran Ashwin celebrates Worcestershire win after defeating Pujara's side
The two heavyweights of the Indian Test side clashed against each other in England
The 4-day game between Nottinghamshire and Worcestershire at Trent Bridge for the Specsavers County Championship Division Two saw two Indian Test giants by the names of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravichandran Ashwin clash against each other.
The two heavyweights of Indian Cricket have been in imperious form for almost one year now. Ashwin was the leading wicket-taker in the last season while Pujara slammed one ton after the other to reach the pinnacle as far as run making is concerned in the recently undergone season. Ashwin is currently ranked third in the bowler’s list of Test Cricket while Pujara occupies the fourth spot in the rankings.
With the Indian team lineup to play limited overs cricket for in the upcoming future, Ashwin joined Worcestershire in County Championship after the Sri Lankan series. India next plays a Test next against Sri Lanka against at home. The selection committee of the Indian team decided that Ashwin should keep himself match ready with his stint at Worcestershire.
Pujara, on the other hand, joined the Notts in May. As it turned out, Pujara was dismissed cheaply in both the innings while Ashwin remained wicketless in the second innings. The Notts found spells from Joe Leach a handful as the latter went on to take an 8-wicket haul in the match. In the end, it was Worcestershire who won the 4-day encounter easily with eight wickets in hand.
India’s ace spinner took his time out to post about his whereabouts in England along with Pujara. “Thanks for the win @cheteshwar1, lucky to have seen your back quickly on both the innings,” captioned Ravichandran Ashwin on Twitter.
