Ravichandran Ashwin cheers for Yasir Shah to break his record
Pakistan leg-spinner Yasir Shah is all set to break Ravichandran Ashwin ’s record for the fastest Asian player to reach 100 Test wickets. Shah, who currently has 95 wickets to his name in 16 Tests, needs only five wickets to reach the hundred wicket milestone and overhaul Ashwin to become the fastest Asian to 100 wickets. Ashwin reached the magical figure of 100 wickets in his 18th Test match against West Indies.
The off-spinner was tagged by Pakistan journo Faizan Lakhani in a tweet which spoke about this approaching record. Ashwin, who is very active on Twitter, quickly made a reply and wished him luck.
Faizan Lakhani tweeted: Chance for @Shah64Y to become fastest Asian to reach 100 Test wkts, need 5 in Dubai to surpass India’s @ashwinravi99
Ravichandran Ashwin recently became the second-fastest to 200 Test wickets during the home series against New Zealand. He reached the milestone in just 37 matches, one less than the Clairre Grimmett who sits at the top of the list. Ashwin replied: Good luck, may the force be with him. He is such a delight to watch.
The ongoing 1st Test against West Indies is a historic match for Pakistan. The match at Abu Dhabi is Pakistan’s 400th Test overall and also the only second day-night Test match in the history of cricket. The inaugural game was played between Australia and New Zealand in 2014.
Pakistan cricket team made its Test debut 64 years ago against their arch rivals India at Delhi. The team led by Abdul Kardar had legends like Hanif Mohammad and Fazal Mahmood in their line-up. However, the match was a forgettable one for them as they were beaten by an innings and 70 runs.
