The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a platform for young players to showcase their talent but it is also an opportunity for experienced players who are out of national reckoning to make a comeback to the side. Some experienced players use the IPL to regain their lost form which can help the national team in the future. Franchises usually have 3-4 senior players in their ranks who can help the side with their experience.

Yuvraj Singh has been out of form for a long time. His fitness has also been a concern as he has failed to make any contribution to the Kings XI Punjab squad. Yuvraj didn’t play a single knock of substance in this year’s IPL despite the fact that KXIP as a team has been playing some dominant cricket. His position is the side was always on the question with Manoj Tiwary waiting on the bench to get a chance.

Tiwary drafted into the XI

Yuvraj was finally dropped and Tiwary took his place in the game against SRH. The KXIP bowlers restricted SRH to a low score but failed to chase the target as SRH bowlers bettered their counterparts. In the press meeting when Ashwin was asked about the reason for dropping Yuvraj, he lost his cool and said: “What..What update? I have told clearly that he has been replaced by Manoj Tiwary.”

Ashwin was clearly not happy with the reporter asking him about an update on Yuvraj Singh. He was also disappointed with his side’s performance against SRH but the team need not worry a lot as they are second on the points table and have lost only two games so far. They are only behind Chennai Super Kings on the basis of NRR and will want to get back to winning ways with their next fixture.
