Ravichandran Ashwin is having best IPL season of his life: Nikhil Chopra
Ashwin should be called a mystery spinner, said Nikhil Chopra.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) secured nine wins in 14 league matches of IPL 2022 and finished in the second spot in the points table. The key player, which helped the team to seal the last league game, was Ravichandran Ashwin, who scored 40* off 23 balls and took a single wicket, which helped RR to get two chances for making their case for the finals. Ahead of the Qualifier 1 fixture between Royals and Gujarat Titans (GT), the former Indian cricketers Nikhil Chopra and Wasim Jaffer discussed the form of Ashwin in the ongoing season.
Chopra hailed the performance of Ashwin in the ongoing season and mentioned his wicket-taking abilities in the middle overs, which have helped to take the pressure off other bowlers in the death overs. He added that the 35-year-old should be called a mystery spinner due to variations in his bowling witnessed this season. The former bowler finds Ashwin has improved his batting and concluded by saying that the RR spinner is having the best season of his life.
“It’s incredible with the way he is performing in the tournament. His wickets in the middle-overs, make the task easy for the other bowlers. With many variations up his sleeve, he should be called a mystery spinner. In terms of his batting, he has scored runs in the top-order, and middle-order, and has learned the skill to hit big shots in the death overs. Probably, he is having the best season of his life with his contribution in both departments,” said Chopra on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket’ Show on CricTracker.
Ravichandran Ashwin has been a revolution for Rajasthan Royals: Wasim Jaffer
Jaffer supported Chopra’s view of Ashwin being successful in taking wickets in the middle overs and putting pressure on the batters. He reckoned that the Chennai-born cricketer has supported the team in crunch moments with the bat as well. The former batter added that the talented spinner keeps on proving his critics wrong, and brings innovations in his armoury to do well for the team.
“He has bowled well in the powerplay and taken wickets in the middle-overs. He has come at number three and scored a fifty, and the knock in the last game helped the team to finish in the second spot. I think he keeps on proving people wrong and develops carrom ball, and leg-spin. Whatever the role you put him in, you find him acing that well. So, he has been a revolution for Rajasthan Royals,” said Jaffer.
